I'm Home

First of all I want to thank all of you for the warm wishes and the prayers! I'm at home, got home around 3ish today. I drank some water when I got home and Jordan just fixed me some chicken broth. My ride was an hour long and wasn't too bad, but I slept most of the way home. Monday morning the OR crew was running behind b/c two nurses had called in sick. I was still in the OR for 7 am though. I was never nervous, not even to them minute of entering the OR. Of course my family was really emotional and crying. After the happy shot I don't remember much at all, next thing I was in recovery and I kept hearing people call my name. And they were saying I did really well. I stayed asleep most of the time and then I remember going to my room and peeping my eyes open, but I couldn't hold them open. My family was thrilled when I went in the room. But there was my mom and she came and gave me a kiss and she asked how I was feeling and I told her that was the worst pain I had ever felt before in my life. I really can't describe it. My stomach was burning so bad and it felt as if I had been punched over and over. My mom broke down in tears and she said I almost looked dead from my color. I had a lot of gas in my left shoulder, that was very uncomfortable. I was really out of it the rest of Monday night. My mouth was sooooo dry. I stopped using the Demerol pump in the middle of Monday night. The nurses were impressed that I wasn't using much. I was constantly throwing up Monday, a lot of blood was coming out. Tuesday morning Dr. O comes in and he is thrilled with how well I was doing. He order the GI test and for my cath to come out. I went down for the GI and as soon as the barium hit my stomach up it came. It was very nasty. The test didn't take long at all. It had been several hours after the test and I asked the nurse when can I start my liquids and she said they were waiting on the results. I asked if they contacted Dr. O yet and she said no. I waited until early afternoon, I couldn't talk, my tongue was getting stuck to my throat. I said screw it and I called Dr. O's office myself, within 10 minutes I had liquids brought into my room. The nurse wasn't too happy that I had called Dr. O on her, but at that point she was feeling fine and could swallow, you know what I mean? Well she only brought me to containers of liquid. After an hour I said that I'm supposed to be drinking one ounce every fifteen minutes. She said that was not her orders. And wouldn't bring me anything else. So, I called Joanna, the dietician. She came to my room and got everything strait. I wasn't in much pain yesterday except for being so sore!!! I had my IV removed around 4ish this morning because my hand was swollen and I wasn't taking the pain meds anymore anyway. I had been going to the bathroom on my own. The night nurse told me she was very proud of me and said i was doing really good. The breathing treatments were coming every 4 hours or so and they were pleased also at how I was doing. Dr. O comes in this morning around 9ish and says I hear I have a new poster patient. He was surprised that I had not been taking any of the pain medicine. And he was excited to see me walking around. Now granted ya'll, when I get up, the pain pulling from my stomach is really painful!!! After he checked my incisions he said I was good to go. I asked if I could shower and he said sure. I called my mom and she was there to pick me up early this afternoon. I took a nap when i got home, I love to sleep, LOL. Besides I had no reason to stay awake. I did do a big booboo though, when I got home I took two tylenols and took them both at the same time, I just wasn't thinking. That caused some discomfort. I'm kinda starting to get tired sitting here at the computer and my back is starting to hurt, so I'm about to go lay down, plus I'm done with my yummy chicken broth! So I think so far I've done really well! My personal goal was to come home today and I'm here! Oh and honestly its hard for me getting all of the fluids in because I'm just not hungry! I'll keep you all posted! Officially a LOSER......
