Hi Denise and again, I appaud your efforts. The cashews are great because you got protein, fiber and the type of "good fats" that help keep your heart healthy. You are doing very well with your water and I'm jealous cause I'm having trouble swallowing even water today. (but, I'm doing it) A serving of chicken has about 21 grams of protein and a serving of sausage has about 12 grams. You probably only had 1/4 of a serving, but you probably got another 10 grams of protein and hot a satisfying feeling that only real food (and warm food) can bring. That's a disadvantage of shakes...not very filling and not too comforting. I hope you have an okra or two to get some veggies in. Every practice is different, but many encourage waking up your metabolism and eating foods that help in your recovery and lifelong good health. Food isn't the enemy and it's possible to get what you need from food and still lose and maintain that loss while leading an active, happy life. There's lots of good ideas and support for eating RNY postops on the main board also. Have you ever seen posts by Dame Tooter? She is at goal after weighing 425 pounds. She cooks, writes and shares alot about leading a normal, happy life after RNY. I wish I could relate 100 percent to your journey, but I'm trying really hard because you are important to me and I want to see you succeed. Keep up the good work. Eat-burn-eat-succeed! Frances

Me again, LOL...each doctor and dietician is different with what they want you to eat. I have basically a meal plan for the first 4 months after surgery and meat is NO WHERE in the plan, But also that makes a big difference in the amount of weight that is lost. At four months the diet is basically liquids, cream of wheat type of stuff, melba toast, graham crackers, applesauce, jello, yogurt, popsicles, cottage cheese, eggs, mashed potatoes, beans, broths, soft cooked veggies, unsweetened soft canned fruits. I don't know the size of your stomach but mine will be one ounce!!! Of course at four months that will surely be doubled and I guess at that time I'll find out what else is added to the plan. As far as vitamins goes....Multivitamin with minerals, preferable prenatal vitamins, which are good for men too!!! Calcium is 1200 to 1500 mg a day. On top of the vitamins, is the calcium, plus iron, plus B12. It's vital for you to have the vitamins for you hair and skin and overall health! Calcium Citrate is stronger than Calcium carbonate. I'm starting off on the pill form of B 12 but do want to switch to the shot monthly! And of course the surgeons and dieticians are different with their opinions and so forth. This is just an outline of the plan they have me on! Keep up your good work!

Hiya Christie -- you got some meat in there, don't know if you noticed. Eggs are meat protein and chicken and beef broth have traces of chicken and beef in them. A serving of beef broth has 2 grams of protein....way to go, broth! I know tomorrow is your big day and you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Can't wait to hear from you. Frances

Hi Denise, I don't know if you would be interested but I saw a dietician that works with Dr. Merriman and she is at Schumpert. My insurance didn't cover her but I paid $64.00. She really was very informative. If I have any questions I can call her. I don't know if this would be an option for you or not but she has really been helpful to me. Her name is Lisa Stansberry and she works at the Bariatric/Diabetes Center on Olive St. Sounds like you got some good advice from the above posts. Take care, Jodi
