Medicaid approval and RNY
Hi all.I need a little help here.My sister is on disability and has Medicaid. She is 4'9" and weighs 270# and has a list of co-morbidities a mile long. However here in North LA there is no Dr. or Hospital that will accept Medicaid for the surgery.I'm kinda at a loss about where to start in helping her get approved and in finding a place to do the surgery. If she doesn't get this down she will soon be wc bound due to her knees and hips and ankles from all the years of being MO.Any info. would be greatly appreciated.
I have heard that Dr. Ordoyne in Covington and St. Tammany Parish hospital do the surgery with Medicaid. I also understand, from what I hear that the process is not long and drawn out. She has to go to her primary and, I believe, that she has to have a referral from her primary. Her primary also may know who could be doing them closer to you. Or even they may be doing them somewhere closer to her but in a different state, such as Texas, if she is close to there. Good luck. Debbie
Hello,
I am having my surgery tomorrow by Dr. Ordoyne. And Diane that responded to you had her a couple of months ago by him. You have to first go to one of his seminars at St. Tammany hospital. I think it's the third Thursday of every month, but when you call tomorrow, you can find that out for sure!
Also, since that will be a few weeks away, go ahead and make sure she has a copy of all of her records from her PCP. I had all of my office notes for the previous year, including, all labs and office notes! It just helps. Also, I would go ahead and have the PCP get a referral for Dr. Ordoyne also! This is just some items you'll need at your doctors appointment. Oh and she will also need a clearance from her PCP saying that she is okay to have the surgery. Also, she will need to see a psych for them to clear her for surgery. I used Dr. Kongora in Baton Rouge, He takes Medicaid and he started to dictate the minute I left his office.
I really like Dr. Ordoyne, would recommend him to anyone!!! His office staff and Joanna the Dietician are really nice also!
His procedures though however is very aggressive, which I like. The stomach goes to an ounce size and the opening will be left at a dime size. I know that varies with surgoens.
Good Luck and keep us posted!
