Are any of the metings in the Mandeville area? If so please contact me. I would like to attend to see if I might be covered by my medical insurance for the lap band. Thanks Earl

Contact Dr. Lavin and Dr. Ordoyne's group. They hold meetings in Covington/Mandeville. They would be the best people to tell you if you are covered.

Dr. Lavin's website has information about support groups on the Northshore. www.whyweight.com or 985-234-3000 How are things over in Mandeville? I moved from the area after Hurricane Katrina to Houston. I still own two houses there and I'm wondering what's going on over there as far as population, housing, traffic, etc.? Thanks! Best to you, Vanessa [email protected]

The population is booming. We have a lot of chalmette people. Traffic is horrible. Even at 7 am on a Sunday morning wal mart is packed. we are fastly working our way back to normal. Yet amazingly most of the fast food joints close early cuz they don't have enough workers.

Diane, Thanks for answering. What do you consider "back to normal?" I was there over Thanksgiving. While I suffer from a bit of guilt regarding "abandoning my village," I am glad that I have more of a normal peaceful life here. I think it's better for my children. I suppose time will tell. I do miss being home. *sigh* I'm wondering how anything can be back to normal when an additional 88,000+ people are in West St. Tammany Parish? Thanks! Vanessa

back to normal for me means more places opening up. Power restored to everyone, etc. We are way ahead of New Orleans/Metairie/Chalmette/Slidell. You see damaged house and tarps, but it is nothing like taking a drive over to the southshore. It is like we were greatly spared. We may have 88,000 people extra, but they kind of need us so this short time of inconvenience will pass. The only thing, IMO, not back to normal is WalMart and the fact it is only open 7 to 7. The schools are thriving and kids are having football games and dances, etc.

Thanks, Diane! I'm betting a lot of those people are NOT going back. Everyone I have talked to from Chalmette says they are NOT returning. Never again. Besides, once people get situated and find out the greatness of the Northshore, why would they want to go back???? Therefore, I don't suspect the increased population is temporary. As Slidell improves, perhaps more people will migrate west to Slidell. But as I understand it, Slidell has a long way to go as well. *sigh* I took a tour of New Orleans/Southshore over Thanksgiving. I'm still speechless. It ominous. The whole things is just horrible! I am very sad about all of it!!!!! Best, Vanessa
