Medicaid - What's the deal?

Does anyone know of ANY surgeons in the state who are now taking it? It's so sad to see so many who cannot get the help they need with this surgery. Let's band together and see who's found a surgeon that will take those with Medicaid. If you have any information please post here. Amy

Frances found a physician who accepts it in Baton Rouge (Dr. Martin)... but the stipulation is that he only operates at a hospital (Vista) that requires a second insurance be provided, not just medicaid... so as far as anyone knows yet (and we have been researching) there is nowhere in South Louisiana to use JUST medicaid for the surgery. This is despite the fact that it is covered. It stinks, but no one knows yet what Louisiana will be doing since the previous surgeons that DID take it and worked with a hospital that provided for medicaid (Dr Scott and Tulane) cannot do so. I spoke to a Tulane employee yesterday... they are all being terminated as of Dec 31, and Tulane cannot reopen due to severe financial difficulty.

Hi Amy, I think there are two more surgeons out there, but I wanted to verify this with their offices before posting anything. I know that the surgeon (Dr. Martin) performed surgery for Medicaid-only patients before the storm and I wonder if he knows how difficult it is for his would-be patients at this new facility.
