I'm home and 7 lbs lighter

My surgery went great. He was able to pull it off laparoscopically (7 incisions****pt asking on Monday if he had opened me up. Tuesday I went for the leak test which was horrid. I was nauseated from the ride in the wheelchair and I had to keep drinking that stuff, big gulps (which ummm I'm supposed to be sipping). The machine was very close to my abdomen and the radiologist kept pushing it down on my stomach. For the next 2 days I was sick to my stomach. Tuesday night we had to beg the nurse for fluids. Instead of calling Dr. Ordoyne with the results of my leak test they were just going to let me wait until Wednesday morning. Wednesday they took out my IV line which was infiltrated, I had been telling them this for an hour, finally Dr. Ordoyne came in and pulled it. He announced I could go home, but I thought maybe we should stay til Thursday. Good thing Thursday I was in the bathroom 7 times in 2 hours with everything coming out of everywhere. I swore I was going to die. They gave me some pain meds and nausea meds and off to sleep I went. Thursday night I was up and feeling great. On friday I realized the problem - even though I had my orders about sipping they were bringing me all of my liquids for 4 hours at one time. I was thinking I needed to drink them all in an hour. The dr thinks the bile from the test is also a culprit. Finally yesterday I got to come home, but the ride home and out of the hospital (I had speed racer for my transport) had me sick so another day spent in bed asleep. Today I've been up and outside and read the paper. So I'm hoping we are in the beginning of me feeling better. I'm hurting and nauseated, but I do feel good. As of yesterday I had only lost 7 lbs, but hey it's the beginning. I know people called the hospital and I do thank you and I'm sorry I wasn't able to talk to anyone.... I can honestly say Dr. Ordoyne is a great doctor. I'm not so pleasedwith some of the nurses at the hospital, but thats another story.

Hi Diane, It's certainly wonderful to hear from you. Sounds like it was a rough start, but you are well in control of your destiny. Great news. Please let me know if there's anything anyone can do. I'm having some trouble this weekend and might be mentioning your surgeon to my GYN this week as an option for me. Take care and rest well. Onward! Frances
