Ok, first let me tell you this is only my opinion... BUT: Ashleigh, hon... do you really want a surgeon EXPERIMENTING with you? If this guy's done less than 1000 I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole many other VERY qualified docs are out there... don't let someone's learning mistakes happen to you. Complication rates for surgeons are DIRECTLY related to experience Take it from a nurse who sees the patients who were victims of mistakes... and how it affects them LONG term.

OH, and I wanted to add... this is not something you really want to be hunting for a bargain on You get what you pay for... and in this case, cheaper can mean less experience... and it's a bigger risk factor !!

Who did you speak to there? He is doing my surgery on Monday and he has definitely done more than 100 patients. Of course this is not his main practice. He is an oncology surgeon. He has only lost one patient who threw clots after not taking his medicine. I wish I had seen this post earlier today because I would have definitely called and asked Rhonda about this. You should go to his seminar and listen to what he has to say and then you should go to other seminars as well.

and I don't mean to sound upset, but truly I am because the impression I've come away with is that he is a top notch surgeon. I found out about him through some people (whom I did not know) who live here in Covington. Rhonda is a very nice woman, but definitely has never given me the opinion she would come off saying he has lost business. She is and has been very professional everytime I've spoken with her. he has a monthly support group. I met with the dietician for 3 hours last week to go over everything about postop. He keeps you on liquids a bit longer than others (6 weeks). The surgery he does is the open rny. I have a whole book with pictures, etc and I will scan those in over the weekend sometime. I definitely have not been under the impression that he is experimenting on his patients. His seminar was very knowledgable and informative.

Thanks for your reply. I spoke briefly to Ashleigh on the phone and I'm going to call her to make sure that she knows your message is here. This does help a great deal and in all the research I've done, he does seem to be an excellent doctor. On a side note, I desperately need a surgical oncologist. I've been given the big "blow off" by the only two in Baton Rouge and it's wonderful to know that there's another one so close. I will be bringing this up to my gyn on next visit. Thanks again for all you have shared. Frances

Hi Ashleigh, This doctor has a healthy crop of referrals on his page. I say this only because many surgeons have none to only one or two patients listed here. I just learned he's an oncologist and I might be giving him a call. Here's what other patients have to say about him: http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/bariatric+surgeon+profile+W+Karl+Ordoyne+mkf.html All my best, Frances

Thanks Frances, I went back and read all of his referrals last night. Then I went to bed and told my husband maybe I'm making the wrong choice. The last few days I've been very afraid. He told me that every time we meet with someone in their office, the doctor, the dietician, the nurse that I always walk away feeling more secure and confident. He also reminded me that I seem to get more and more nervous after coming on line. However, he made a good suggestion to me. There is a patient who listed her phone number and he suggested I call her. I'm going to try that tomorrow and talk with her. I spoke with several of his patients at his support group and they all rave over him. Every time I've ever spoken with Rhonda she has been very professional it just surprised me to think she'd say he lost business and gained business and people were *****y. The other thing I was thinking about is that Ashlee says he was willing to work with her on payment. That may or may not mean lowering his fees, it just may mean giving her extended time to pay it. I know with medicare patients they want the deductible upfront. At the seminar we went to there was a man there from Texas who had been sent by his cardiologist. So that really struck me as a good sign. Well 5 more days and I'm still a bit nervous. diane

And you know what else too...I'm really disappointed in the reviews of St tammany Parish Hospital. From the areas we were in it was definitely equiped for overweight people. The nurse in the hospital told me all of their equipment they use is capable of supporting 550 lbs. They had large wheelchairs and they even had a scooter by the door. Now the chairs in admitting sucked, but you can't have everything. There were tons of those loveseat looking chairs around and the one thing I was most impressed with: The area where they draw your blood had an oversized chair for you to sit in. I didn't have to squeeze into it.
