Have any of you contacted medicaid to find out who THEY have listed for this procedure? Is it that they won't bother looking it up? If an insurance company has coverage for something that they do not have an "in network" person for (in this case an in state surgeon) then usually they authorize an "out of network" provider to do the service at the "in network" rate. Has anyone spoken to medicaid to see if they can get treatment (RNY) in TX or MS due to the doctors being relocated? I am wondering a few things... Has any of you contacted an attorney to see HOW a hospital that accepts medicaid for other issues (for example, gallstones) does not accept it for RNY? That most certainly sounds like weight discrimination... especially since the insurance (medicaid) covers it.... Would be worth looking into... Those who are on disability, seeking medical help for weight via medicaid.. could consider speaking to a disability attorney?

Hey Kat, That's a wonderful idea , However yes I have contacted medicaid and got a complete list of every surgeon in the state of louisiana, it took like 6 different calls and alot of PO'D people at medicaid!!! And then I called the list of about 60-70, and all of them told me no,, some of them told me they take medicaid but you have to have another insurance also, and some told me they take it as a supplement. also some told me they only take medicare. And then I called medicaid back and asked for a complete list of hospitals in LA that take medicaid and called all 80 something of them and asked what surgeons did gastric bypass , and then asked them if they take medicaid < which there was only a few that weren't on my orginal list> and none of them did. Same results. I have like 3-4 doctors where I have no contact numbers or info, and may or may not take medicaid,, But I did find out LA rehab can help you get it ,, AND OMG I AM ALREADY IN THE ALABAMA REHAB PROGRAM AND DID EVERYTHING THERE SO I WOULD ONLY HAVE TO GET IT TRANSFERED HERE AND HOPEFULLY THEY CAN HELP,, If not I will transfer my medicaid back to alabama where my dad lives and go there for the surgery , which about 20 people I know got theirs done!,, so as of now , I am putting it in god's hands , and where he wants me to get it done and when, I have to trust him to guide me that way! I think its a sign from him that I have met all of you and can't wait to actually meet yall at the event!!! Also I am on disabiltiy , but I dont know who I talk to about that ,, I'll have to look into it, also my uncle is attorny and will see if he can help. Ill let you know what he says
