Just a Little Dissapointed

Hey everyone. I live in Natchitoches LA and I am on medicaid and drove nine hours (4 1/2 going and 4 1/2 coming back) to see Dr. Korndorffer in Metarie since he is the one taking over Dr. Scott's patients and taking medicaid. After I got there he informed me that he wasn't doing any surgeries until maybey february, that wouldn't have been a problem but he also told me he didn't feel comfortable doing a rny on someone with a bmi like mine at this time (my bmi is 63). They were very nice, but I was like I drove all this way and was out in less than 45 min. I had to take off a day of class and my sister off a day of work. I am a little down because I have already had all the labs and tests done that medicaid requires. Oh well back to the drawing board looking for a doctor that takes medicaid (and high BMI's).

Did you contact Dr Richardson? He's at Ochsner, and although Ochsner didn't do Medicaid before the storm... I'd be willing to bet he's more flexible after I had a BMI of 54 when I first went to him, and he's doing mine Lap when the paperwork is all finished... still don't have a date though... AND I do postop care on his patients as a nurse on his unit... he definitely does have patients with higher BMIs than mine, I see them every day. The number to talk to his coordinator (Melissa Wolf) is 504-842-3000 and then ask for Richardson's office. You can ask Melissa about the Medicaid. Good Luck!

Hi Mona, Is Medicaid offering any advice on getting more than one doctor/hospital in the state to perform wls for medicaid patients? There's a new program started outside of Baton Rouge and I've been thinking of giving them a call. I will make some calls on Monday and get back with you if I find a faster solution. I know it's certainly a tough blow, but please don't give up hope. My BMI was near 60 when I had lap band last year. Cheering and praying for you! Frances
