Have you posted this question to the DS board? That would be your best chance of getting rock- solid info. Ultimately, I have chosen DS because after researching, I came to the same conclusion - DS offers the fewest complications, best chance for full EWL, best chance of never regaining, and a super healthy post-op life while never having to diet to prevent regain. Monitoring both the main (RNY) board and DS boards for months gave me the opportunity to see how each has worked for people, which has only served to make me utterly certain of the choice. That said, 'choice' is sometimes only a concept, and for whatever reason isn't actually available to us at the moment in our own unique situation. I made a 'choice' to have WLS- but with an insurance exclusion and no way to raise the money for out-of-pocket, there isn't any real option to 'choose' it. Real life can sometime suck, and I'm trying hard to wait patiently and without bitterness - all the while learning as much as possible. Life is ahead of you. If your co-morbs are so disabling as to shorten your lifespan or even take abundant life away from you, the real 'choice' you are making is how long you can wait for something to give. It might be today - someone might know a DS surgeon who will take medicaid. Or it might be in six months, when someone else comes on board in La who does. You might realistically have six months or maybe six years to hold out. But you might not; that's an answer you will know. RNY works GREAT for some people. Sure, statistically DS works great- *better* IMO, for a bigger percentage of people. If you work through the above things and decide that DS actually *isn't* an option for you, then there are worse things you could do - like live out the rest of your shortened life disabled by MO. Don't be afraid. Face the future with courage, knowing that you played the hand you have been dealt to the absolute best of your ability. Utopia is a fantastic idea, but only actions will change our lives. Get a realistic idea of what you actuall CAN do, then run-run-RUN with that idea. If you're determined to make the absolute most of the options you have, you WILL succeed. And the very best news is that this is not the be-all and end-all of everything. So many things can change in such a short time. God forbid, if the day should come when you have had RNY and find that you still need a revision, that revision might be much more easily available to you. We are working all of the time to get more companies in more places to cover not only WLS, but all forms of WLS. If you lose enough to get past your co-morbs, in a few years, you could find yourself or your husband in a job with a company whose insurance would cover a needed revision. Don't ever lose hope. Tomorrow is always a new day. The only control we have over tomorrow is by making the most of today. In years past, you'd have been like me - wls in any form not an immediate option. So you truly ARE blessed! Denise in Ark
