Katrina support on this board???
I know that there has to be several of us affected by the storm, but I am surprised there is not more talk of it here so that we can support each other mentally. I have other boards I go on that I feel it is talked about more and supported more. We were one of the major states impacted. I am in Slidell. Although my home has minor damage compared to some, it has been really hard for me. I am out of work, the government cut off my food stamps due to red tape, and I still do not have my unemployment. Not to mention, this is an emotionally roller coaster, as 2 days ago I felt I was going to lose it, I felt better yesterday, and then today in the paper they posted the names of the dead so far identified, along with a story of a man shot by cops, and I just cried. I know we all have to find ways to move on, but part of that is being able to talk about it. Anyone else feel the same??
On a happy note, I am in the 200s now and also the century club, as of today.
Kelli,
I'm with ya girlfrined there has not been enough support for us who have been hit the hardest on this board.
I know I have been through a lot and would not mind sharing about it.
I know my house has it bad and there are others who had it worse than me.
On the losing side of things I am able to fit into some size 18 jeans and some I am still in size 20.
I seem to lose a whlie then quit for a while. that gets me.
But as long as I keep losing I am happy.....
CON GRATS on the century club and for being in the 200s now.
I am in the low 190s upper 180s.
Take care all,
Chrissy
I live in Shreveport and the only thing I am affected by the storm is all the newcomers to our city. I feel for you but I am not there and so it is hard to comprehend all that you have and will go through. I am sorry I personally havent supported you and the others enough during this time. I wish I could do something besides tell you that I am here if you need to talk.
Just Know that you and all the rest that are going through this are in so many of our prayers and God will Bless You.

Denise, that is very sweet for you so say. That is my fear though, that we will become out of sight out of mind. The devastation here, and I am sure in the other states, is ten times worse than what they show on TV. Peoples lives have truly been turned upside down. Each day there is a story that is worse. Chrissy lost almost everything in her house, I no longer have a job and the government also has not provided food stamps or unemployment for me. Yet most of us still feel more blessed than others. There are coffins laying on the side of the road on the way to my daughters school, that rose up out of their resting place. It is more than one can imagine. I appreciate your sincerity and honesty.
Congrats no your lose also Chrissy. Yea, I mean I just find it odd that it is pretty much never talked about, asked about, whatever. Other boards I go on regularly keep in touch with me about what is going on now. I just think it would be nice for those of us who want to discuss things to have a forum to do so. I mean, today I was sitting here crying reading the names of the dead in the paper. It is very unfortunate.
Hi Chrissy,
OH and the Unjury company have joined to provide some protein supplements. We tried to have a big support meeting in Baton Rouge for all displaced members, but it was too soon after the storm and everyone was still scattered about.
They really was a lot of support and posts, but I think those of you hit hardest by Katrina were around to see or feel it. I'm sorry.
It you are interested in getting the care package, please mail me an address.
All my best,
Frances
Kelli,
I understand what you are saying totally. I think sometimes things are so bad that it's just hard to even talk about at first. This is a death and there are stages of grief to go through. Shock, denial.....when people are still in shock and denial - there isn't a whole lot of talk...but as they move from that place to anger, sadness, and acceptance the talk will come.
A lot of this is still difficult for me to talk about. So many people we know are affected that there is simply no escape. The whole thing is still mind-boggling to me. You can check out my profile for tid bits of thoughts and feelings but most of the time I am still numb and shocked.
People progress through grief at different rates and at different stages. Maybe you can find a support group that is meeting in your area.
For me, I just want to get to Houston, settle end, and be over this. I have to move on. It's the only way that I can cope.
Everyone is in my thoughts and prayers CONSTANTLY!
Hugs,
Vanessa
Hi girl! I agree some people can not talk about what is going on. However, for those who can, I just would think this would be the place to talk about it, with others who have been thru it or nearby. And whether you stay or go, you have to move on, but it doesn't change what has already happened. It doesn't mean, if you relocate, such as you said, that your are not still dealing with it. Often times it is the horror stories that I hear that have happened to others that saddens me even more than my situation. I guess cuz we know it is real, we have seen it. I know there are homes that had water up to their roofs, cuz I have drove by them. I have seen the numbers of dead written on houses. These are not just things I have heard on tv, and cannot relate to. My favorite quote is "When You Think All is Lost, The Future Remains". I truly believe this, but I think if things are left to linger in ones head, that they never go away, whether you relocate or not. I ofcourse am praying for you and yours along with everyone else. Hope Houston is all you want it to be girl!
Congratulations on the century club!!! I am thinking I finally entered onederland, but I am just guessing. I was close before RITA, and have been gone 17 days. I am going home monday......... power or no power... my scales is calling me.............. at least it isn't electric.
If no power, I will repack suitcases and head to Houston. It is closer to home, at least................LOL. Bound to be at least one room available in Houston...........LOL. Make that, I will call first, then go to Houston.
