Early Post-op eating
Hello all! I am from Port Allen, 26 yrs old, 301 starting weight. I had my surgery on 9/12 (Lap RNY) in Zachary. The dietician there was very informative, however I am so sick of pureed meats that I am finding it hard to eat at all. I know all the different doctors have different programs for what to eat post-op, but I'm looking for anyone that can share their 'reader's digest' version of a diet plan. Right now, I'm supposed to be eating scrambled eggs, soft white fishes and/or other soft proteins. My Dad had the surgery about a year and half ago, with a different doctor than I, and he said he's shocked I was eating pureed meats only 5 days after surgery. He was on soups/liquids for 2 weeks before anything semi-solid came into view. He suggested that I try some 'cream of' type soups and step of the solids for a while. So I've tried that the last few days and have stopped losing weight. HELP!! I want to get the right amount of protein (I do still use the Advantage shakes), but I need some options on how to eat without getting bored or slowing the weight loss. Any help is appreciated!! I have been reading the boards and I'm very inspired by you all. I know I'm on my way, but it's all still new... can't wait to be a veteran to help others. Thanks!!

Donnie,
hey I had my surgery on the 16th of Aug.
I stll can't have any kind of meat. When I get 8 weeks out I can try baked fish, and once I tolerate that then I can try baked chicken. but as far as ham, beef, or pork I can't have that for six months which will be Feb for me.
our diet after surgery was clear liquids for 2 weeks adding protien shake on the second week, 3rd week was cream soups, yogurt with out fruit chunks, then week after that was applesauce,
then chesse, cream of wheat, bananas, then it was oatmeal, can fruit,
last week I added beans, crackers, melba toast, then in 2 weeks I can add pasta, rice, srambeled eggs, after i can tolerate that I can have the fish, chicken, and once I handle that I can have salads and what ever till i can add meats.
so hopefully this will help you out somewhat. I hope it will give you some ideas too.
OH for my protien shakes I get the Nector form the Vitiaman Shop.
they have all knids of flavors I get bored with the same one all the time.
so try it....
Take care hope things go better for you...

I'm pretty surprised that you are eating so early, too! I was on pure liquids, Nonfat yogurt, cream of wheat cereal, jello, sf pudding for 2 weeks. Wee 3 I could add: lowfat cottage cheese, soft noodle/vegetable Soup (Healthy Choice) Grits, oatmeal, whipped potatoes, scrambled egg whites, strained chicken and turkey and 1/4 banana. Weeks 4-5 I could add: Low fat cheese, crackers-plain, dry cereal without sugar such as corn flakes, rice krispies or special K. Shaved or thinly sliced turky/chicken breast, tuna packed in water,
whitefish, melba toast, pasta, fruit without skin (apple, peach, melon, plum, pear) Weeks 6-8 I could add low fiber breads (english muffins, light rye bread, lite sandwich bread, small dinner rolls) Lowfat deli meat (turkey, ham, chicken) vegetable juice, mushrooms, beets, squash, shredded lettuce. MONTHS 3-5 I could add: most bread (toasted), vegetables well-cooked (asparagus, carrots, peas, green beans, spinach, okra, tomatoes eggplant, collards) Healthy Choice Frozen Dinners (salisbury, shells with ricotta, chicken breast with vegetables) 6 MONTHS and beyond: Meats (veal, beef, ham, port, fish) Fruits: (apple, grapes, cherries, strawberries, blueberries) Vegetables: (broccoli, sweet potatoes, cauliflower, red beans, white beans, corn, black eyed peas). I hope this does not "overwhelm" you. I just copied it off my post-op guideline sheet. Hope it helps you. Blessings, Pam
