Coming to HELP!!!!
I posted this yesterday on my home state WA board and got loving words of support and ecouragement. SO, I wanted to share with all of you who are being affected. Please resond with any suggestions or comments of how I can best be of service.
I am self-pay and was planning my surgery for December. However, I left my job yesterday and decided to do something I've wanted to do since I was I child. I am going with the Red Cross into the hurricane zone to provide medical care as I am a nurse
I will need to use my savings, which means I will be unable to have surgery
Im so excited to do this as I feel it is my personal service for the LORD.
Pray for me as this struggle will still be with me. I am morbidly obese and the living conditions in the field will be difficult. However, like many of you I am tired of hearing myself say when I lose this weight I will...............start living. I am going with all my fears and praying for GOD's renewing grace.
I will leave OCT.1 for minimum of 3weeks. I am going to try and get some of the things I will need donated. I am going to try and raise resource money in order to purchase supplies when I get into the relief area. I will start in Alabama and then be sent out to either MS, LA, FL. They explained that I could be out in the field for days at a time with no food or water. WOW, scary yet everything in me says GOD wants me there. Pray that I can be of service for these people and that their live is better even if for only a moment.
I just wanted to share as I feel so much love, kindness and support from this site.
Sorry, my profile does not have a lot of info. and you may not know who I am but I know a lot of you by your pictures and your post.
Thank You for all

If you decide at some point to look for a job... do let me know... this hospital is PRO-WLS and insurance coverage here could not be better!! I will be paying my office visit co-pays... and nothing else, once approved
Hello,
First, I think it's great what you are doing and you will be blessed for it 20 times over. I think we are in a similar situation only in the sense that I don't have alot (AT ALL) lol yet I am calling in all friends and family and getting a uhaul to drive supplies and food to the victims of the hurricane wherever it is needed most. I don't know where I should be taking it that will be of the most help and I am hoping that maybe you could help. By working with the Red Cross maybe you can find out who has yet to receive the help that is needed and that is where we will go. I live in Maryland so I have a little hike ahead of me but plan on going in a few weeks as soon as I can gather more things. Now as for your surgery, there may be a way you can still have it. I had my surgery in Mexico and was self pay as well, it is a third of the cost as the hospitals in the states and it was the best thing I ever did. Before thinking i am crazy please email me and i can explain more if you are interested. Good luck and I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Renee, Thanks for caring. today is the first day that I have even looked at the web site because things have been so hectic. It seems that each day has been involved in making sure that everyone in my family was accounted for and making sure that I could take care of the ones that are around me. I am a patient of Dr. Louis Martin, who was what I think is the greatest surgeons in New Orleans, along with Dr. Raum and their whole staff at Touro. I live in Kenner, or at least when they let us go back. All post ops have special needs, as I am sure that you know. We are scattered to the 4 winds at this point and have trouble getting in the protein required and the vitamins. I know that everyone needs help, but rest assured that the people in the Astrodome are now being taken very well care of and it seems that many people are focusing on the Astrodome, but there are, what we are now called, "refugees" in most of the states. The people that are needing the most help are in the smaller cities, towns and parishes. The ones that they are not telling you about. If you are trying to target individuals that are pre or post op check the internet and find the hospitals and doctors around New Orleans, Slidell, Pearl River, LA and MS. Some of these areas haven't even seen FEMA yet and not much Red Cross help. The phone lines are terrible and cell service with phones from those areas is very difficult to use. These areas need supplies more than Houston, don't get me wrong, I am in Longview, TX and before that we were in a hotel in Houston, things got too hairy there and their services were stretched. So north we went, but I have plenty of family and friends in St. Tammany Parish who are still there and friends and family along the coast of Mississippi. They need the help. Everyone is hearing the plight of New Orleans, and that is great, but there are sooooo many small towns and cities, that need it more now. They are being forgotten. They have no electric, no generators, no fans, that the generators could run. Waveland, MS is just a bunch of rubble now, they need help. I know that alot of people are giving to the Red Cross and don't get me wrong they have done more than a outstanding job, but the hands on stuff in some of the smaller cities and towns would be important too. Chainsaws, garbage bags, cleaning supplies, fuel to run these items, sheer manpower to get things done, loving hugs, caring hands and most important of all is your prayers that are needed. And one thing that I need to say, because they have opened their arms to LA and brought us in for as long as we need to stay. GOD BLESS TEXAS Debbie Farrell
