Girl, you need to pat yourself on the back because if you can go through all of this you now know you can make it through anything! I am a rescent post-op so I still remember the pain at 2 days after surgery I could barely make it to the bathroom, let alone stairs...I shuffled down the hallway at the speed of a snail...you are Strong...The rest of your recovery will be a pc of cake. Looks like you got the info you need but If you need anything else please just ask this board is full of alot of caring people....Me and my mom were just talking a few days ago about the recent postops and what they have to be going through...My heart goes out to you and I hope that it is all down hill from here. Did you get the GI test with the dye to check for leaks? If not please tell them you need it and the women that is in your area, God has blessed you with one of his angels, will know the exact name of it. GOD BLESS and my prayers are with you. Crystal

I am so sorry for what is happening to you at this time in your life. My prayers go out to you. People saying that you should have know your diet before surgery. Well, I am sure you are in a state of shock as far as knowing what you should be eating. For protein in the first few weeks try Carb-down milk, and Carnation Instant (Sugar Free), which you can get in small boxes that do not have to be put in fridge, Sugar free popsicles, and lots of water and Crystal Light will help the hunger some, broth, and later on puddings. At this time I can not even think of what I did eat, because I am concerned about what is going on in your life. I have been very upset just seeing the things on TV. I went to the grocery store last week. Outside the store a group of people were taking up money. A lady stood there telling them she would not give any money for that cause, because it was just a drinking and gambling town. I think really she needs some money to go to a shrink or something. Try not to pay attention to the cruel people in this world, their time will come. Just remember that there are good people too and my heart goes out to you. Cathy

((((((Gemma)))))))) HUGS!! Girl, with a begining like that, you KNOW it can only get better from there!!! I pray for your speedy recovery, Hon. A collapsed lung does not sound too fun. As for the diet, just be sure to drink lots of water and you are going to do great with the rest. God bless you, Dahlin! You and your hubby are in my prayers! ~Jojo (New Orleans native, living overseas)

My heart and prayers go out to you. It seems that you have gotten the nutrition info. You'll be on full liquids until one month after surgey then begin pureed foods. I have the same doc so I know that's normal proceedure. Has your husband applied for emergency food stamps due to Katrina. You should qualify, it may be hard to get into the Baton Rouge office but if he can get to a parish further away from the hurricane the waits aren't so bad. I realize this is a very trying time but if someone can stay with you while he applies it could really help you in the money department. Our surgeon and team will hopefully contact us soon because people are hunting for them now. I have the booklet they give before surgery outlining diet and post-op concerns so don't hesitate to ask questions if you have them. I'm only 5 weeks post-op but my husband is approaching one year so one of us should be able to help you with concerns until we get out doctor, nutionionist, etc. back! Anne P.
