I added my cousin's name to the red cross and donated 100.00. they said please do not send food or clothes they need money... Please anyone let me know how Houma did and what does the news say. this not knowing is making us think she is dead. we call her cell pnone and get her voice saying leave a message. so this give us some hope. she is still alive.will you all please help me with any news when you hear anything about Houma the next few days Thanks from the botom of our family hearts. Kathy, from what I have seen on the news, Houma is where they are taking many refugees/evacuees. So, that makes me think that it must have made it through decently. I am so sorry that I don't know more; we are sheltering about 5000 people in our town in various shelters and Gov. Perry's office has asked us to take in about 700 more. Keep looking on the red cross site to see listings of missing and those that have registered at the many shelters here in Texas and in La. and Mississippi. God Bless and good luck, Callie

Cell phone towers were downed and damaged by the storm. So don't let not being able to get through to her on the cell phone worry you. Much of the phone service is disrupted also due to water and wind damage. Makes you wonder why they have not gone to underground cables like other areas of the country, but it is probably due to the cost etc. You can send clothing to the areas where shelters have the storm victims. Naturally the red cross in other areas would rather have your money, but the people who have no clothing in the shelters would love to have your clothes. If you mail clothing to the areas with shelters, be sure to put a piece of tape with a size of the clothing on the front of each piece of clothing to make distribution easier.
