Hi all, I have not posted in a while since I was denied surgery because of lack of documentation. BUT, I am now waiting after doing the 6 mon.with my doctor for approval again! BCBS of Alabama they are not quick about their business let me tell you. I had a surgery date of Aug. 26 and they said well we go in order and we have up to 60 days to decide! They said you can go ahead with your surgery and we will review it. YEAH right! NO thanks! Not after all the trouble they have given me! My husband is also thinking of switching jobs but has tried to hold off till I get approval. I don't know how long this other company will wait for him and I know that their ins. does not cover the surgery!!! Please pray for a quick approval!!!!! thanks, Karen

Anyone who has to swap companies needs to seriously consider Ochsner.org! They cover the surgery 100% (cept for the office visit co-pays)

The ups and downs of the insurance world! If this were a broken arm, they would approve surgery in a day. If someone needed to get tonsils taken out, they would approve it in a day. Why can they approve these on a dime but with WLS you have to jump through so many hoops? Peggy B.

I'd heard about others who had the same problem with getting the actual letter typed by their doctors. I actually did some research, here on this website and in other places on the web, and wrote my own referral letters and took them to my doctors. I had dropped the first letter off at my OB-Gyn (I've been his patient for over twenty years) for him to review. When I went in a week later for my yearly visit, he said that after reading over the packet the surgeon's office had provided him he had signed the letter. I paused and asked, "What packet?" He retorted, "You know, the one that the clinic sent over." Then it dawned on me. When I told him I had written the letter, he said it was an excellent letter. That made me feel on top of the world. Anyhow, researching and typing these letters myself made time go by quicker. This week I took one to my PCP along with a Medical Evaluation document for him to sign. He also signed it right then and there without any hesitiation. It was so nice. I didn't have to wait for any of my letters. I have them in hand to take to the surgeon's office this next week. I also wrote a long letter to the insurance company from myself that shows in detail that I have done alot of research on this matter and that I am not taking this lightly. When I gave it to Brenda (in charge of insurance at Dr. Kreitz office), she said that would help me a lot. Insurance likes to see that the patient is involved. Anyhow, we shall see in a couple of weeks how well all my leg work pays off. Good luck on your journey. Peggy B.
