Okay I admit it; I'm a lurker. I had RNY 3 weeks ago. At times I feel okay and others I wonder what the ???? was I thinking. Three very close friends have had the surgery and we have all had a different experience. Dr. Karl Ordoyne did my surgery. My best friend had Lavin and her husband had Dr. Ordoyne and she said they were light years apart, Dr. Ordoyne is so good with the aftercare part. I will say I have to agree. Dr. Ordoyne removed my appendix a couple years back and my husband couldn't stop talking about how nice the surgeon was. I ended up in the hospital for 5 days, mainly from the drugs. I could go the rest of my life without having morphine again. I punched a nurse in recovery(I have no recollection of this)but they said some people react violently to the meds. I've had gullbladder and appendix surgery and never punched anyone, wish I could remember but I can't. I was talking to people who weren't there. My husband tells me I would wake up push the morphine pump, talk to someone in the corner who wasn't there and then go down for the count. The dr. realized I was overdosing the next day and lowered the meds but it still took a good week to get completely out of my system. I'm just starting to really eat foods. Some things just don't sit well with me. I have thrown up quite a bit but I will figure everything out. I can only eat a spoon full of food right now. crackers work for me, I get a little crunch and they turn to mush so it helps me. For the first week and a half I had many regrets but now things are fine. I live off of Isopure premade drinks. Alot of people don't like them but I think they are great. I will try to stay out of the shadows and offer help or advice to anyone who asks. I am three weeks out and 25 lbs.

Welcome from a fellow lurker! I am glad to hear good things about Dr Ordoyne. I know him because out kids are in school /soccer together... He is a really nice guy. If I lived on the northshore I would have used him. IF you are looking for a cheaper alternative to Isopure, I would recommend Nectar brand Protein in the Fuzzy Navel flavor. I mix one scoop with Crystal Light Sunrise, and I swear that it tastes liek Orange Juice/ Tang. I have to use this battery operated mixer that is at Target for 4.99 and put the powder in AFTER the Crystal light. Good luck with your recovery! Anne in New Orleans

Hi Sue, Congrats on the 25. Don't feel so bad about being a lurker. I am 10 months post op and I still feel like I am looking in and don't have anything relevant to say. As far as the puking, I did alot of that in the beginning. Dr. Raum told me to knock it off and do all I can to not puke, because it will stretch your pouch and then you will be right back where you started from. As for the proteins drinks, I have a new favorite, not for the taste, but for the amount of protein you get for the effort. Try the new stuff, Profect. I just got it and 2.7 oz has only 100 calories and 25 grams of protein. It isn't something that I would choose to drink if I didn't have to, but it is palatable, expensive, but I am worth it. I ordered the 4 pack, so that I could try all of them, but it really doesn't matter. The fact that you get so much protein in with so little effort is great. Try them, I think that you will love them and they really meet our needs well. Right after my surgery, I wasn't really hungry and Dr. Martin told my hubby not to worry, I would get hungry again. I just make sure that I got the protein in and the rest came along as I went. I started at 426 and at last count( I only weigh in when I go to the doc) I am down 157 lbs. I am kinda at a plateau I think, not seeing a lot of difference in the clothes lately, but that's ok, I am walking walking and trying to walk some more. Keep the faith and keep plugging. Debbie

Congratulations on "coming out of the closet" (LOL) and on losing 25 lbs. That is GREAT. Don't worry about "just starting" to eat. You WILL figure everything out. And will be surprised at how quickly you can eat "real food" again. As far as the protein drinks go, just go with what you like. I use American Sports Nutrition Tropical Banana. Sometimes I add unsweetened cocoa to it and sometimes I add fresh strawberries to it. But if you find something that you like, there is no need "wasting" a lot of money trying things that you are not sure about!!! Hope to hear more from you. Pam
