From what I've heard (I'm not yet postop) it lasts during the drastic weightloss phase, it's your body's lost protiens that's causing it. I don't know what to say about how to cope, sorry

Hi Catherine, The hair will come back!! don`t give up i had my surgery on April 7th of 2004 . 3 months after i had my surgery i lost alot of my hair thats normal . I took vitamins for the hair, nail and skin that helped. You can get it from the GNC store or wal-mart its cheaper thereThe hair you are losing right now is dead hair . Keep up with your protiens and vitamins!! GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!!!!!!HUGGSSSSS JANE

I know how you feel. I'm losing my hair too. Don't worry about it will grow back. Just keep taking alot of protien and water. It will help with all the new hair. Good luck Maria

Katy Please know it gets better. My hair started falling out by the handful several months after surgery. I tried not to focus too much on it, but rather focus on how good I was feeling, how I was off all my meds, and all the energy I had. I figured if all else failed, I'd stick a hat on my balding head! Hey, it couldn't be any worse than two years prior to wls when I had brain surgery and half my head was shaved! Well, now I have lots of new growth. I wish I could give you a time frame, but I really tried not to concentrate on the hair, I was and still am having too much fun doing things I couldn't do before. If I had to guess, I'd say my hair loss lasted from Dec. through April. Have patience, this will pass before you know it. People will be too busy noticing how much weight you've lost and how great you look, they won't notice your hair! Best of luck to you! Debbie
