My Story of my surgury date
Hello everyone,I am home now,we just got in from New Orleans after a long painful trip.I have 4 inscisions on my abdomon,my tummy is terribly boated ,streched to its limmit with gas they filled me with during surgury. They had me wait till 2:30 to start the accual surgury, after doing multible tourturous stuff to me to prepare me,they gave me 4 numbing shots in my neck, and made me blast my throute with 100 sprays of some yummy banana flavored lidocain this was because they felt like they would have trouble putting the tube in my throute..even though ive had it done maybe 5 times in past for other surgurys, and never went thru any of this junk..its just unreal the amount of crap they have put me through, for nothing.Time and time again I told them that I had hepetitis as a child, and that I had family history of non alcohol related fatty liver disease,it was in my health forms..plus I was given a ultrasound of the liver and pancreas back in nov or dec,and was promised tere where no problems with anything. Now dr scott is haveing the nerve to tell my mom and husband that he is so sorry, but its not his fault that its the fault of the radiologist that did the test here in dequincy,he says that they did not do a proper write up on the liver..so what im wondering is if thats the case then why did he tell me that my liver and pancreas was ok..if the test wasnt done rite why didnt he have it redone, god knows he had enough time, nothing was ever rushed ,and I followed all his rules to a T,He did not do a preop diet, but I was eating smaler portions and watching the fat content, and sugar amounts.I was in recovery for a long time alone,no one would come tend to me,the tube was in and I could breath ,but it feels like you are smothering with that thing in..THEN THEY TAKE IT OUT AND IM CALMING MYSELF WITH THOUGHS THAT i HAD MY BAND FINNALY AND that the world was right...after maybe an hour some guy comes in and tells me that im ok,but they didnt do the band,no other info,im not ablke to talk cause of the junk they did to my throute..im only getting weird sounding words out..saying why,why,why..I geusse they thought I was nuts,or prolly didnt really care, finnally a nice guy came in and explained why was operated on but still had no band,he says Ms Doucet ,you have a diseased liver, they cannot do the band, then he got my husband ,cause I was crying so much,he comes in,obviously had been crying, eyes red.after awhile more I get to my room, where the great doctor comes in and tells me all about my liver disease,he says it appears to have scerocis(sp?) HE says it was so big it covered the width of my stomach, from right all the way the the left..then he ask what my plans are...hmmm..I say well I dont know exactly, but it dosent involve another surgury at tulane..he says Ill have to see a liver specialist, that he will send them a report from the biopsy they took from my liver.
So now im at this point,im 32 ,spent a year and a half on this lap band,no band, and a sick liver...and still as fat as a cow.
Yall all are so special to me, all the responses have had me crying,I love yall all so much,I still need yal even more now ,even with out the band,Dr scott said that if I dodnt lose alot of weight that my liver will get worse and ill die,so im gonna have to do it on my own,its hard but im not gonna just die,I will try to keep my profile updsted on my condition, thanks so much for the prayers and kind words
Love ,SueElla
Ella, You have got to get to a hepatologist (liver specialist) fast! I can't believe they didn't have one see you before you left Tulane. And what were all the shots in your neck for? That sounds so bizarre. Do they do awake intubations on you for some reason? Next time you have to have surgery at a teaching hospital, demand that only a staff anesthesiologist intubate you. Some of those residents working on you could just be fresh out of med school. I'm a nurse and used to work in surgery, and it's downright scary what they let residents do without practice.
But your liver is the scariest part. If it is that big and they think you have cirrhosis, the anesthesia can actually throw you into liver failure. Anesthesia is one of the worst things for your liver. One of the doctors I used to work for died from liver failure after her hysterectomy. Have you been tested for Hepatits B and C? A lot of people have Hep C and don't know for years. Did they have you do a liquid diet before surgery? You wouldn't believe how much your liver will shrink after 1 week on a liquid diet. Is there some reason you don't want the gastric bypass or a medical reason they won't do it? I had the band for 2½ years and had complications so switched over to bypass just this past April. Hang in there.....but she a liver doc pronto!
Laura, thanks for your reply,I dont want gastric bypass, its my choice.I was not put on any liquid diet. How long after her hysterectomy did she die?I wont be seeing a liver specialist for awhile, and im haveing eye surgury at the end of june,so this scares the hell out of me..they dont put me completely under for the eye surgurys though.I hopefully will be haveing some lab work, and a ultrasound done on my liver this week, they are gonna take measurements of it.I got the results of the biopsy in,and it was steato hepatitis, and mild fibrosis, that means fatty liver disease...Im off the avandia which proly brought the troubles on,and am on 2 insulin shots at bedtime, which is important to keep my sugars in line, they said that helps with the liver.I had a hep panel done a few weeks before surgury, and dont have it.

Sue Ella, I think she died two weeks after the hysterectomy but she was sick from about the third day after surgery. They took her back to surgery twice thinking they might have knicked her intestines or something which I am sure did not help matters. It was only at the autopsy, they figured out that the liver was the problem all along. I'd be pretty worried about the fibrosis - that means your liver is hard in areas which can make it not function well. Forgive me if I asked before but did they test you for Hepatitis C?
Hang in there girl!
Laura
They did test me, they did a hepetitis panal.also the fibrosis is very mild, they said its the earliest stage of it,and weight loss and getting off the meds that where causeing it will help things, ive lost 8 pounds since surgury, which is 4 a week so far, that is going to help alot ..I plan to continue at the weight loss, since its the best treatment for this
