(HERE IS A COPY OF PART OF A EMAIL CONCERNING COMENTS MADE BY LOUISIANA STATE REPRESENTATIVE FRANCIS THOMPSON) Rep. Francis Thompson, D-Delhi, told Cerise [Health Secretary Fred Cerise] he should explore denying health care to smokers and the obese. "Sooner of later, we have got to say to patients, 'you can't smoke and expect us to give you free health care ... you can't eat fats and you can't weigh 600 pounds,' " Thompson said. "I would like to see you be more aggressive," Thompson told Cerise. < end snippet > We need to politely inform Rep. Francis via telephone, e-mail, or letter that his prejudicial comments about obesity, that he links to Medicaid cuts, are discriminatory towards people with this disabling condition, per the Americans with Disabilities Act. If he is unrepentant of those remarks, after attempts to inform him about the medical disabling condition of morbid obesity, he should be subject to immediate congressional investigation and discipline, as this is completely unbecoming and unprofessional conduct of a Representative of the people in Louisiana. Francis Thompson Box 68 Delhi, LA 71232 (318)878-9408 (318)878-5650 (Fax) e-mail: [email protected] SueElla

OBESITY IS A DISEASE FOR MOST OF US.......FOR ME IT WAS NOT, I DO KNOW THAT WHEN MY THYROID DISEASE WAS FIANLLY DIAGNOSED, THAT WAS MY MAIN PROBLEM FOR ALL MY MAJOR WEIGHT GAIN.....BUT I HATE TO USE THE WORD "FAT" OR OTHER WORDS PERTAINING TO "OVER WEIGHT" OBESE PEOPLE......JUST LAST NIGHT SOMEONE MADE A SMART AZZ REMARK.....AND I QUICKLY JUMPED ON HIM....LET HIM KNOW HE WAS TALKING TO A "FAT" PERSON....AND I DO NOT APPRECIATE THE COMMENTS.....SO NEEDLESS TO SAY....I HAD A GROWN MAN IN TEARS, AND I DID NOT CARE.....I GOT MY POINT ACROSS....AS WE ALL SHOULD I LOVE YOU ALL........TAKE CARE.....AND LETS DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS MESS....... WITH MUCH LOVE AND HUGS. KIM

I just sent the less than honorable Thompson an email - very sarcastic! I suggested that maybe we should make all people accountable and close down the chemical industry since it causes cancer. This is a huge liablility! If we are going to start blaming and pointing fingers - lets go all the way!! I thought he was stupid before but his ignorance was confirmed when he opened his mouth!

How come what he said doesn't suprise me? I hate to say it but alot of people feel that way towards fat people like us. I hate that. But if the shoe was on the other foot then we would need to be tender towards they're needs. I think this man needs a kick in his butt for those comments and not be voted back into office ever again.

RE: THIS MAKES ME SO MAD! Did anyone talk to Rep. Thompson, and get him to change his mind about his inappropriate comments on obesity? I find it very sad that an elected official would make such discriminatory comments.... Richard in Lafayette
