weight gain and pregnant
OK. I am 14 weeks and have gained 8 pounds in 5 weeks. I am sooo upset. I cried at my OB appointment. My doc was so sweet. He told me to diet if I wanted to . I have been eating sooo many carbs! Trying to get back on track. I can eat more now being two years out. I guess I am asking for a little encouragement! I was sooo happy at 196. I didn't care if I lost another pound. I liked where I was. I guess I am just whinning. Sorry. Thanks for listening
Hi Peggy,
You have a rough chore ahead of you. Dieting and pregnancy aren't really good combinations. If you watch your carbs, but give the baby the complex carbs that he/she needs, you should see your weight gain level off at some point.
I think the best thing you can do for you and the little miracle is walk as much as allowed and swim if you have access to eleviate the stress on your joints.
Funny thing is, if you were those 200 pounds heavier, you probably won't gain anything. I had a baby at nearly 350 and lost weight during that process and still had a nearly 9 pound baby.
If you do plan to diet, please watch the ketosis level carefully. If you rob your body of carbs, you will give off ketones and this has been linked to delayed fetal brain growth. Please make a list of the best carbs for the baby and concentrate on them and "yank" all the bad ones -- sugar, white bread, white anything.
Having a baby is hard work, but if you could lose this weight, you can have a healthy child.
Please don't cry because if you gain the recommended amount during pregnancy, you CAN lose it after the baby is born, especially if you can breast feed.
My best to you and your little precious gift.
Frances
