AmericanLifeCare Insurance anybody?

I have AmericanLifeCare Insurance and would like to know about others experiences with this company. I have looked on the Insurers info page but didn't see anything too recent. Thanks in advance, guys/gals! T--resa

Hi! I have American Lifecare and they were no piece of cake.Do they just administer the plan for your employer or are the the insurerer? I would suggest you first read your handbook and call them to see if you are covered and what their requirements are.Wishing you much luck in your quest.If you want to e-mail me with any questions I will try to answer them to the best of my ability.

The administrator of my insurance is BC/BS of Tx - but all the physicians are those registered with American Life Care. It covered, as long as it was medically necessary. It does take awhile to get approved though. Good Luck

Thanks, Leslie and Betty for your reply! The physician that I have my consultation with (Dr. Toby Broussard in Opel.), his office checked with ALC to see if they cover wls. They do but they have some requirements, don't know what those are...will find out Monday when I go for my consultation...plus I have to be approved through Intracorp...which I am not sure what that means. Did you both have to have a 6 month Dr supervised diet first? Some cases that I hear about don't have to do that and some do. Well, thanks again! T--resa

I have ALC through Great West. I was told that my surgery will be covered. My doc said it will be not a problem to get it approved through this insurance, and even easier if the Sleep Study reveals apnea... and he thinks it will. I barely sleep 3-4 hrs a night total, broken into smaller sections between fully waking and turning over. Anyway, so I don't know the details of what they require, but doc said I would probably be able to have the surgery in 4-6 weeks (and have it covered). Nope I didn't do a 6 mo preop diet thingy....

Thanks, Nurse Kat! I am getting very nervous about my consultation visit...yes, I know it won't be a big deal...but I can't help it. You know how it is, I am sure. Makes me feel a little better hearing about others experience with the insurance company...well, only the good experiences. How long did it take to get the approval? T--resa

I have not received the approval yet, still in testing phase, but doc says that I shouldn't have any trouble getting it (BMI over 53)... we'll see Guess we'll be learning together
