Hiya Ella!! Good choice on the surgeon! Dr. Scott is an awesome surgeon (I've worked with him before and done postop care of his patients as a nurse at Tulane)... Hehehe the 4 hours between cups of water can be agonizing, but I would strongly advise sticking to it, he's had great success. As for looking for someone local, I live in New Orleans... so if you are down here for a office visit or something, and want to get some coffee (Decaf SF Vanilla Latte - Starbucks) or something, let me know.

Oh, guess I should have mentioned that the "cups" are only 1 oz at a time Good luck!! If you want to get a "last hurrah" and take a trip down to burbon street let me know!

Hey Kat,Im so glad to hear something positive about dr scott,so far I have only heard and experianced negative stuff about and from there staff being slow, and sometimes rude.So its nice to heatr from a nurse that hes good and has good results ,cause ive also not been able to talk with but one lady that had surgury with him. So far the little ive seen of him he has been nice, ive been there alot ,but have only saw and spoke to him 2 times . I am gonna be in new orleans for preop stuff ,and see dr scott again on the 3rd,the 4th my hubby and I are planing on maybe taking a trolly ride and going somewheres for lunch,I think it will be ok for me to have some sugar free decaff coffee and some soup,so far I havent gotten a clear answer about preop diet,2day im at 3 weeks till surgury, and ive been calling trying to get a straight answer,I cannot do much walking, but id also really ,really love to go to the above ground cemetary and take some black and white photos,we might try walking around that day some and taking pics, maybe we can meet for lunch SueElla

Hi SueElla, My surgery is May 20th. Soooo far away (it seems)! I scheduled it so late because that is the last day of classes and I'll have a little R and R before summer classes start! I'm actually going home (to N.O.) this Monday to sign my consents and go to group. I'm not happy about the 5 hour drive home but I guess it's a little inconvience for a greater cause.

That sounds fun, my hubby's never seen the cemetaries... and I haven't been in a few years... so sounds like fun (never thought of doing B&W photos.... sounds like a nice place to do it). Email me and we'll set up a time As for the staff being rude.... well LOL even Dr. Scott can be a bit abrupt... but he is GOOD, and that is what counts, right? As for his post op stuff, I don't know the details of his diet, but I do remember he had the patients on cups of ice chips (1 oz) every 4 hrs for the first day, then water cups (1 oz) every 4 hrs the second day, then I think they move to clear liquids, but I don't remember after that... they are discharged usually on clears if I remember right. The nursing staff at the hospital is good too, even if they are a bit slow... (fyi, try to be patient with them... one reason I no longer work there is that the nurses are WAY overloaded on assignments)

Kat ,your so right about the nurses being overloaded,When I had my vena cava procedure awhile back they where running ragged.I found out alittle earlier that He isnt putting me on a preop diet, the head nurse I spoke to said to just do what I had been doing and to be there on 3rd for preop, she said that he might tell me to do liquids like the 4th,for just a day ,but he dosent do everyone like that.So that means I can at least go have a nice dinner in new orleans on the 3rd ,not just soup,lol... Im haveing lap band, they said I should expect to go home the next day,and in my paperwork it says that they will start me on water, juice, and broth, and in a few days a full liquid diet . I have never been to the cemetarys, but heard it was really cool, well I gotta go cook some spagettie for supper,I wont be able to eat much of it ,cause I just had a rasberry/mango protien smoothy it was soo good,I used the body fortress whey vanilla protien powder, frozen rasberrys, fat free skim milk, and some mango SueElla

OH you're a Lap band patient? Well that makes a world of difference. I've only taken care of his Open RNY patients, so the post op will be different and shorter! Congrats If you'd like someone to come visit you in the hospital, just speak up I'd be happy to. You might wanna bring some of the SF Philly Swirl with ya... they're popsicles you can have on the liquids
