Hi, I have BCBS-FEDERAL OF LA--I need answers--please help!
ok, Hi, I have my first consult Wednesday at Neweigh. I don't have any physician supervised diets, besides going to a weight loss Doctor and getting on Adipex....but that lasted a month!
I do have a 120-day Atkins Journal, with weigh in every week, plus a fourteen page diet history profile.....do you think this may get me an approval....or do I need more. I also made copies of every work out video, weight loss book and included that. I have been in a health club since 2001, and curves before that! I also keep reciept and was on the slimfast diet and have reciepts to show the month and what I bought the bars, shakes.
I must say I am only 20, I am 5'1'' with a small body frame my BMI is about 41-43 depending on my weight-- my weight flunctuates between 217 and 225. During highschool, I had one year of Bulimia (but never treated for it)---I blew twice my size after I guit making myself throw up--will this get me a denial?--should I take that out my personal letter? I also collected pictures of each stage in my life--and stated age, weight and height? Obesity runs in my family, and I have GERDS (on Prevacid), Hypertension (and hypo???), and bad cholesterol--not to mention pain in every part of my body! what more can I turn in--I also included pics of my relatives who overweight (mom, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt)
Please replay sorry so long, just worried from being young--I should say I am covered under my dads plan until I am 24 as long as in school--should this affect anything?--Thanks
Hey T.... how are you... .. I had my surgery through neweigh Baton Rouge..and they are the sweetest group of folks ever. bring everything that you have recorded, or any diet pill prescription bottles.. because with them everything counts...I dont think you should mention the bulimia, because of the psych eval... I would keep that bit for yourself... you dont want to hinder your chances of approval because of that.... but you can include everything..and since we are close to each other you can call or email me [email protected] if you have any questions or issues...

If your BMI is over 40 you won't need additional documentation. All they will have to do is send in a letter of medical necessity and you will have an answer within a few days. You have wonderful insurance as long as you don't request Lap Banding. They will approve Gastric Bypass really quickly. Trust me on this. Best of luck to you!
Hi tama-I know you won't like this, but that will not be enough. Bcbs is not going to pay for the surgery. I am going thru that nightmare now. Neweigh was not able to do anything aobut it. I have gone through repeated denials with bcbs and no amount of documentation is going to do it. I have a 48 bmi, severe health problems and numerous dead relatives in their 40's from heart, pulmonary and apnea complications (all of which I have). Shonda
