Hello everyone. My name is MariaDe and I'm part of AMOS. I think I know some of you room this area. But you can mainly find me in NY board. Anyway, the reason why I am posting here is because I'm doing some research about New Orleans. See I'm thinking about moving down to the Big Easy. Now I would like to know if anyone can give me any information about real estate company [apartment], newspapers, hospitals and doctors. Plus I would like to make some new friends also. If all goes well, I should be down there by the end of the summer. Nice meet all of you. Maria

Hi Maria, I not in New Orleans, but I worked for a short time for a Web site, Nola.com, that covers the area. Nola is a good place for news, jobs, tourism, entertainment and everything New Orleans. Look them up at: (http://www)nola.com My best to you in your journey. Frances

Nursie, Thanks for the concern. My weight loss journey has been hijacked by the hernia repair saga from hell. I was on a wound vac for a month and a half before the whole thing had to be reopened because the fluid was building in other areas as my original wound healed. I'm sporting quite a zipper down the front and a JP drain, but I think I'm doing well one week post-op from surgery #4 related to this hernia and wound. I was excited to see the 'boil was going to be after WalkAmerica. I would like to attend with my little toddler of terror. I didn't want to RSVP until I could get a few weeks of decent health under my belt. I do want to go and meet all these wonderful people. If you want to meet some of us BR losers, we will be out at LSU for WalkAmerica the weekend before. Not all of us will be walking and I'm trying to get a nice lunch set for after the walk. I get the staples out Thursday and I should be much perkier after that. Thanks for the concern and invitation. Frances

Hi RN! [[[[[hugs]]]]] I want to go to the crawfish boil on May 7 But with no job and lack of money I don't think I will be able to make it. Oh plus the fact that I'm living here in NYC. So you're going to have to send me lots of photos and one little crawfish You know life would be so much easier if I was a nurse. Then I can get an job any where. I really wish I listen to my mother when she told me to become a nurse when I was a teenager. Oh well such is life BTW my mother[LPN] and sister [RN] are both nurses And if the Lord wants me to become a nurse then he will open the doors for me to get into nursing school. After surgery I have a whole new outlook on life. I feel that things are only going to get better for me. And there are going to be alot of changes for the better. Thank you for the information about apartments. I'm going to look into them. I would love to live in the french qrts. But from what I remember there isn't much parking around there. As for the work I do. I'm a Phlebotomist and Medical Assistant. I did go to school for both of them. Well I'm off to . I'll talk more in the morning. Have a good night

Wow well if you can, look into Tenet hospitals (they're all over New Orleans) or even Ochsner Hospital and you could probably find job info on phlebotomy. If you have a degree (Bachelor's) there's a nursing school here that only takes 9 months to RN!!! Anyway, let me know if you need any more info Oh btw, the French Quarter is beautiful to live in, but VERY pricey... even on an RN's salary, it's a little much for the space I would need (family of 4)... most residents there do not keep a car... it's too expensive for the minimal use (everything in walking distance) and even the grocery stores deliver Again lemme know if you need info.

Good Morning RN I though that would be the case when it comes to living in the French Quaters. A friend of a friend told me that she lived there for a month and it was cheap. Thank you for telling me the turth. Maybe cheap here in NYC. Said to say I have to don't have a BA or AA in college degree. I'm only a CMA. Thanks for the tip about the hospitals. I'm going to start looking into them now Talk to you later. Have a great day

I used to live there, the one bedroom apartments run anywhere from $800 to $1000 for a place by yourself... getting a roommate is about half that cost... but you have to remember that most of the CMA's here make about $7-8/hr max. There are cheaper places... but they're ICK type places too... not a far cry from living in a flop house (squatters).
