Concerned Lady
I'm not sure what you mean by obesity PT, but the actual surgery was only 2 hrs for me. I had the laparoscopic version and was only in the hospital for 2 days. I was off work for 4 weeks, but probably could have gone back before that if I'd wanted to. Some people probably discourage others not to have the surgery out of ignorance. Years ago, when they first started doing this surgery, the results were not always great! They (doctors) did not know what the long-term nutrient needs were, and several people died from having the surgery. But, through the years, they have vastly improved the procedures and have learned what the post-op needs are, and I personally feel that the surgery is relatively safe. Of course, there is a risk with all surgery, and 10-20% of wls patients do have complications, but so do people with heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes related to morbid obesity. Hope this helps you. Write me if you'd like to chat more.
