Spicy food

Hi, I'm hoping to have the lap band surgery. I live in Texas now but am originally from New Orleans. Having said that, I love spicy food. I've been reading the various posts about post-band food experiences. The one thing that I have not been able to find out is about spicy food. Have you had to give it up?

Hi Simone -- Hot sauce, hot wings, seasoned protein -- it's all good where I'm standing which is near Baton Rouge, but business takes me to New Orleans. I was working in New Orleans in the first few weeks after surgery and I was only having trouble with food with I was rushed or in the car stuck in traffic. I just finished adding a note to my blog about making red beans and sausage Friday night. Red beans, 13 grams of protein per serving, lean sausage at 9 grams of protein per serving -- a lap bander's dream as far as I can see. Greasy stuff bothers me sometimes, but spicy has not been a problem and I'm on "real," chewable food. Good luck with the band and let's share some recipes. Thank you! This wasn't going to stop me from pursuing the band, but I'm so glad! I can give up the bread without batting an eye but giving up the spice was going to be a sacrifice.

I really think a huge part of my loss is due to the limited amount of bread and starches. I have not eliminated them, but it's such a difference. Well marinated meats and spicy seafood is keeping meals interesting and fulfilling. Flavor does not have to sacrificed, by far and I'm planning to plant a herb garden in the spring -- with a "pepper" row! Oh, yes, life is good.
