I have been doing some research on what my insurance companywould require in order to approve my wls if not excluded. The problem I have is I do not have a pcp. I only go to the doctor if I am sick and I usually go to a walk in clinic that takes my insurance. Can anyone give some advice on how they have or others they know have handle this problem and still got approved even though they do not have a pcp.I have tired the diet pills, weigh****chers, exercise and even the diet patch but nothing works.I know I probably need to go to a pcp because I probably have some comordities too. Any help I would greatly appreciate. Thanks teehsa

Hi Teesha, There's no way to get around having a PCP and you are right, you do need a PCP anyway. I feel like I have the best surgeon in the world, but he works with an internist-PCP who carefully monitors non-surgical issues that obese patients have like diabetes, high blood pressure, anemia, etc. These surgeries are complex in the fact that it's not just about one part of your body or your health. You do need someone to look at all areas of your health and who can monitor medicines given and medicines taken. I'm also in Baton Rouge and I've been blessed with a great surgeon and a new PCP who works in Plaquemine. I didn't want to drive outside of town at first, but I'm so incredibly glad that I did. He was wonderful and had the kind of attention to detail that might easily be missed in the big city. You can read more about my WLS and my journey at this site: http://www.francesspencer.blogspot.com A good WLS practice can handle all those insurance hoops for you better than the time and effort it would take you to fight it alone. There will be a seminar for people interested in WLS before our next support group meeting Thursday of next week. I would love to have you attend with us. Please let me know if you are interested.
