I need help. We are all in trouble if you are Tricare Prime. Humana just denied me surgery. They say that they do not pay for this surgery and that Tricare never has. I am going to appeal. I need all the help I can get. If you are Tricare Prime and have ever had RNY lap or open would you consider writing a letter and sending it to me so I can put it in my appeal. We have to prove that this is untrue. . The funny thing is that the handbook they sent me says they cover it ,if you meet the criteria. Is this discrimation against us because we are obese? Please think about it and email me at [email protected] Bobbie

I know I've seen people on here with Tricare who've been approved - don't know what states they were in though. Here are some people you can ask for help: Roberta - [email protected] Gary Viscio - obesitylawyers.com (with www. in front of it) You can ask questions about them at: [email protected] Good luck!

Hi Bobbie I don't know why they turned you down, but I myself have tricare prime and I know several others who have it and they DO pay for RNY. Granted, mine was done open , not laparoscopic, but it was paid 100%, they covered even the nutritionist and the psych eval. The "requirements" I had to fulfill were being at least 100 lbs overweight, BMI over 40 , diet attempts in the past, medically supervised diet, and I was approved without a problem. You may want to talk to your doctor on base and find out what's going on. You NEED a referral from your PCP before they will approve this, but don't give up. I sure hope they haven't changed the policies on us, this would be terrible. I had surgery in New Orleans, if you need more info, please email me. Good luck and happy Thanksgiving! Andrea 334/237/140
