Please Answer: Individual Insurance

I am trying to purchase individual insurance that covers wls..could you please give me an idea of how much a person should weigh in order toget a quote or to even be underwritten.

If you are talking about the qualifications for weight loss surgery, I think you have to be atleast 100 pounds overweight or a BMI of atleast 40. I am sure that there are a dozen overways to be able to get the surgery. These are the ones that I know about. Rhonda

There are no specific weight requirements to get a quote but many insurance companies will rate you at a higher premium based on being overweight, co-morbidities, etc. Your health, whi*****ludes weight, is the determining factor on wether they will even underwrite a policy for you. Many of the companies will put a "rider" in place that will specify a certain length of time that you may not received treatment for a particular illness or condition. For example, many years ago I had a breast reduction done. Since I was in graduate school I had my own policy. There was a rider that I couldn't receive any treatment for illness or conditions related to my breasts for 5 years. Totally ridiculous but I had no choice.

Sorry but I have one more question..How long after you purchase insurance should you wait before you make a claim on the policy for wls..Thanks for your help...Guys...
