My in network insurance covers WLS in Shreveport, La. Please tell me of a good surgeon that has performed >500 laproscopic roux-en-ys in Shreveport, La. What is his mortality and complication rate? Which hospital in Shreveport is known by the medical community as being the most progressive and advanced for WLS?

I had my surgery in Baton Rouge. I don't know of any surgeons in Shreveport but you can look on here for one. At the top of the page is a place where you can click on "find a doc". That might give you some clue about a good doctor. Hope this helps and good luck to ya! Rhonda

HI Susan, I am waiting on approval for Dr. Kenneth Jones. He does not do lap surgeries however. He has done close to 3,000 surgeries and 5 deaths due to other complications. He believes there are too many risk factors involved with the lap surgery! Another Dr. here is Norwood I don't know much about him except he does the lap surgery! Good luck, Karen

Hi Susan, My surgeons are Dr's Jim and Stephanie Barnes. They are located in Shreveport and use Christus Schumpert. I must say they are TERRIFIC!!! If you want to read about them on my profile page, please do. My primary surgeon is Stephanie but her husband assists her and vice versa. Their aftercare program and diet is top notch. Their staff is always willing to answer any questions you may have, and they have had the surgery too. I honestly can't say enough about them and want they have done to make my life better. I love them and highly recommend them to everyone!!

Susan, I am having surgery 11/11/04 in Shreveport. I have Dr. James Barnes. Also his wife Dr. Stephanie Barnes is a Bariatric Surgeon They use Christus Shumpert. He is very nice, and has performed many surgeries. I feel very confident with him. His staff is great. Bobbie

Susan, The best doctor in Shreveport is Dr. George Merriman III. He is wonderful. He saved my life on November 24, 2003. I have sent probably a dozen people to him since my surgery. If you need is phone number, I will email it to you. He is a true angel.
