Support Groups in New Orleans?

Hi, I am new here and was wondering if there are any support groups in New Orleans? I'm especially interested to talking to other lap banders. Thanks.

hey Jazlady, i see you are from Marrero i had my surgery at WEST JEFFERSON HOSPITAL they do the lap band to its with Dr. Crieg Thompson with Southern Surgical Specialists ask for judy they are really wonderful they do have support groups. i had my surgery back in April 7th and now i feel great... hope this helps and GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!!! hugssss jane

Thanks Jane. I am looking at all options especially because I'm hoping my insurance (Humana) will cover it. Are the support groups affliated with the doctors or hosptials?

Jane, are you going to be at the "reunion" they have planned for December 1st? I know we haven't gotten any offical mail about it yet but Judi had mentioned it to me on my last appointment. ~~Just wondering ~~ Andrea

Hi Jaz, I had surgery with Dr Thompson @ WJMC, although it was RNY, not LapBand, so I couldn't tell you if they actually do the Band. As the other post already suggested, call and ask to speak to Judi, she's the bariatric coordinator and she's awesome. They do have support groups and we have a "anniversary" get-together coming up December 1st, I've met some of the post ops and can't wait to see everyone again who had their surgery around the time I had mine.
