For all you Post OP people, what changes have you had to make because of the RNY? I am considering the procedure and I eat meat, starches and virtually no veggies. I can tolorate V8. How can I develope a taste for veggies. I know that I will soon learn to eat them. With a pouch, the pizza will be gone forever? Help?

HI Jeff, You will find your tastes change after surgery. Many things I thought I would mourn I dont really miss at all.. As far as pizza being gone forever.. Maybe not. There are several on here that eat the toppings .. Some are able to tolerate the crust.. It will all depend on your pouch. What you cannot tolerate today, next week you may be able to ... You dont really say good bye to your favorites.. you just say .. see you later... Sondra

Jeff, you might find that you do really well. The way it works according to my doc is that you should always concentrate on eating your proteins first. If you like your meat that is surely a plus. some folks tolerate some types better than others. You will figure that out as you go. As for the pizza thing, I had pizza tonight for supper. my in-laws like to go every tues. Now, i did only eat the tops off of 3 slices. But thats the part I like the best anyway. I am perfectly happy with all of the goodies. I don't think I would do very well the crust yet anyway. As far as the veggies go, I am not even allowed to have any yet (only cooked beans and mashed/baked potatoes). I am thinking that for me at least if I didnt like veggies it would be pretty much ok as I working for protein anyway. Hope that helps. Tj Brown 320/262/145

I agree with Ash and Emma's Nanna. Not only do you say, "See ya' later", you also get to say "See ya' little". It takes ALOT less to satisfy you. I used to be an ice cream nut, but after dumping a time or two on it, I have learned that a bite or two of one of my kids treats is all I need. (Believe me, after almost 7 years, I still dump and dump hard!) It took a long time for me not to feel deprived when we as a family went to the local Dairy Queen or Sonic for something sweet and I couldn't get anything. But I don't even think twice about it. I love not being ruled by food anymore. It's the greatest feeling in the world.

You may want to look into having the DS procedure since your eating will be more normal without the fear of the dumping. Since the pylocric valve is retained with DS surgery there are a lot less eating problems that RNYs seem to experience. Meals are smaller but not minute. No pouch worries. It's important to get in the proteins no matter what surgery you have. Fluids are vital.
