I am wondering if BC/BS of Louisiana will cover?

I called BCBS of Louisiana and they say that the gastric bypass is covered only if it a medically necessary. That is, of course, thier way out. I am 39, have a BMI of 56. I am scheduled now for a sleep study next week in Lake Charles. I don't have Hypertension. My knees however are starting to cause discomfort. For those who had or have this carrier, does anyone have any comments? Jeff

I heard that bc/bs didn't cover bypass at all. I have the federal bc/bs and had no problems with them. I sure hope that bc/bs gets on the ban wagon and starts covering this life saving surgery! Good luck to ya!! Rhonda

I have BC/BS of Alabama, they cover very well. I was approved with the first submission. As far as BC/BS of LA keep up with the appeal process and a big help is to attend any support meeting about wls. This looks good to insurance if you are serious about this change in your life. good luck, Teri
