Scared!
Hello everyone! I am new to this, so please bare with me. I have been looking into RNY for some time now and get really confident in my decision one day and then too scared to think about it the next. From what I read, this is pretty normal.
I've had several close friends or relatives to have the surgery and they all have had positive outcomes.
Talked with an aunt of mine the other night *****ally wants the surgery as well............she ended up telling me that a lady she worked with just died from having it, so I asked her to get more details. She called a few days later and said that this lady was home only two to three days after surgery and died from complications due to her intestines being punctured and leaking.
Has anyone heard of this? What I want to find out so badly is what are the complications that seem to occur more often than others after this surgery? I know that people interested in this surgery have these type of questions and it may be that these questions be answered by the doctor. Do you just ask the doctor what kind of success rate he has or what?
Thanks to all!
Hi.. welcome to the board... I had my surgery almost 5 weeks ago... I have not had any complications.. I asked my surgeon what his success rate was... If he wont be candid with you I would find another surgeon.. My surgeon had done about 200 surgeries no deaths and only two complications. He said that they were both doing well.... It also helps if you know someone who had used your surgeon... going to support groups helps with that...
It is common to be scared.. I was too.. some days.. and on others not worried at all... I am so glad I did this... I couldnt say that the first week.. but each day was better and better.. but you are going to have rough patches with any major surgery...
Good luck and let us know how you are doing.. Sondra
Hi there Ash 'n Emma's Nana
Thanks for the info. and congratulations on your continued success. It must be wonderful to be on the other side. Where did you have your surgery? My sister-in-law and cousin had their surgery done in Little Rock, AR and my niece had here done in Monroe, LA by Dr. John Price. She said that she had done a lot of research before considering a doctor and seemed very pleased with him. I haven't met anyone else who has used him, have you? I know that I want an experienced dr. I could never be one of those "first time patients". When I look at an average of these types of surgeries performed weekly, I'm finding on average that most are doing four or five. I am just wondering now..........is this an experienced dr.?
I do plan on going to a support group meeting before making any decisions. I plan on taking my husband as well so he may learn more about this as well. Thanks again!
