Psychologists in SELA

I'm going through my pre-op testing right now but I am having trouble finding a psychologist to do my evaluation who is familiar with bariatric patients. I live in the Mandeville/Covington area, but I'm willing to go about 50 miles or so to find one covered by my insurance (Gilsbar) and familiar with what I need. So, what psychologists/psychiatrists have any of you seen that you had a good experience with?

I went to see Dr. Tim Brown in Mandeville. He is the psycologist that Dr. Lavin's office recommended. When I first called it was going to be a month for my appt., they kept me on a list to call if someone cancelled. I got in in two weeks. I had no problems with him. We talked for about a half of an hour, then he told that could see no problems with me having the procedure. His office faxed a letter to Dr. Lavin's the next day. Good Luck - Robin

I used Dr. David Clark in Covington. He's located very close to Lakeview Regional. He was excellent. This was the 2nd eval I was getting since my 1st one didn't work out well. The total cost was $150 (you file your own form--they give you it). I found him very easy to talk with and quite professional. I think you would be well served to use him. He was able to give the results and approval within a day or two. Gave my surgeon's office a verbal okay the next day I believe. The difference between my 1st and 2nd eval was incredible. It is obvious that Dr. Clark does these type of evaluations and questions are geared toward the issues that are pertinent--unlike my 1st eval. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, everyone. None of the ones suggested were covered by Gilsbar, so I just gave up and randomly called a psychologist (Dr. Carol Self in Mandeville) from my book and got lucky; she's done a bunch of evaluations for bariatric patients, and I'm going in on Wednesday!
