Hi everyone...I have a question. Me and my husband are trying to be approved for the surgery. Our case is at the medical review board. My husbands bmi is over 45...Mine on the other hand is 37.9..ok lets say 38...Can I be approved below 40? With my depression, reflux, back pain, arm numbness and heart burn? Can I? I am so stressing the denial letter...I want my life back!! : ' (

Oh my gosh, I finally found someone after all this time and research that has the same problems as myself! My bmi is 37 and I have GERD (reflux),depression, arthritus in my back my arms give me trouble all the time. The NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF HEALTH states that you can have the surgery w/bmi of 35-39 w/a comorbidity, so yes you can. The Lord will see us threw. I have been on the tx board but i'm having my surgery in Lousiana w/Dr. Kenneth Jones. What ins do you have? mine is b/c b/s of tx. ppo Take care, Tonya

Hi Cherish, From what I know, your BMI has got to be at least 40 or over and or 80-100 pounds over weight. I had my surgery through NeWeigh in Baton Rouge. When you call them, they get your insurance info and let you know within 24-48 hours is you stand a chance for insurance pays or not. I wish you luck and hope you are able to get the approval. Dee

Cherish, My ins. says 35-39 w/comorbidity and or 40 (bmi) or above. Some people get the surgery that is 40 or above and have no co=morbidities so I can't imagine yours being 38 with life threatening illnesses and them not approve you. You should call your ins. and ask if it is covered with a medical necessity with your bmi. Good Luck and don't let any one discourage you. Tonya
