I received my Dr. Bill the other day and he charged me $31,800.00, and the hopital charged $73,339.00. I was told that this was excessive. Does anyone else have what they were charged?

I haven't had surgery yet but am pretty up to date on costs. First thing did you have any complications with your surgery: ICU stay, extra long hospital stay. Second $31 thousand for a surgeon is sort of high. Mine will charge $7000. I would ask for an itemized statement on each bill.

Where are you getting it done for $7000? I have been fighting the insurance company long enough so I am going to start scraping the money together to get he surgery. Any ideas?

WOW!!! Did you ask how $$$ before surgery? Do you have insurance? I'm sure most ins. companies will only pay "usual & customary". Someone else already asked about complications, ICU, etc. I went to a NeWeigh seminar w/Dr. Belanger a few weeks ago, and he said that the cash (no insurance) price for EVERYTHING (surgeon, hospital, tests) was $25,000 (I don't remember the exact $$$) for RNY. Do you also have a bill from the anesthesiologist? I sure hope you don't have to break the bank on this! Good Luck!

I hope you have insurance. If you do, the insurance co will negotiate a price. You know how insurances get special pricing?

Dr. Price is my surgeon and his cash price is $15000...hospital and all. Usually if you don't have insurance the hospital and surgeon will discount the price. You should contact them and tell them that you don't have insurance and would like a flat rate. The hospital and my OBGYN did this when I had my son. I had to have an unexpected c-section and had no insurance. The doc and the hospital came down subtantially on the price to help me pay for it.
