Medically supervised diet is..?
Ok.. might be a stupid question but the reason behind the supervised diet is: a. see if you can stick to a diet so you won't mess up your band or b. if you lose weight, then insurance says 'ha! you did it without us spending money so you are denied!
Then another question arises: what is this diet? protein drinks first, then mushy food, the same that you'd do after RNY or Lapband?
Another question pops into my head: What doc does the supervision? Your regular doc or the wl surgeon? Or in my case, my cardiologist?
I was in TOPS for over a year and didn't lose more than 10 lbs and I've gained and lost that amount over and over. Mostly fluid since I tend to get a build up of it due to my heart.
I intend to write a letter stating my personal concern over the heart problems, why lapband would be the best for me and other things along that line. I pray that I'll get someone in the insurance's office that realizes that I need to do something quick before my heart gets worse.
hi, laura, im having the same issue over here, i have medicaid and the requirement is 3 doctor supervised weight loss.. i have a friend who had the surgery her insurance had the same clause but her doctor over looked the fact that she hadnt had that. well im going through dr. scott, and his nurse informed me today that i have to have that and it is medicaids rule not hers, and before i can even get an appointment with dr. scott i have to have all my stuff and everything, and that i have to pay for my pyscological evaliation,, athat medicaid wont pay for it.. i think im fixing to look for another dr. that takes medicaid in my state... good luck to you as i am hopeful i can get some luck along the way myself.
I was on a supervised diet back in 96-97, lost down from 225lbs to 173lbs but sure didn't stay there. I got back up to 222lbs this past year. Now I'm down to 216lbs. I need to get this weight off so I can try and keep from having heart surgery. At least postpone it for as long as I can. It's silly what hoops we are made to go through. As I've said before, if we had anorexia or alcoholism or depression then we'd be covered and no questions asked. I wonder why they consider these as a disease but not obesity??
