New Here! Wanted to introduce myself, and then of course a ton of ???
Hi Everyone!
My name is Jenny, and I just started my WLS journey. Actually, I researched this option a couple of years ago and had decided to go with the Lap-Band but my insurance (Humana) didn't pay for any type of WLS. Fast forward to a month ago. I was visiting my hometown (Atlanta) and everyone was talking to me about my weight. They were all people whom I love, and they were coming froma good place, but it still hurt. I sometimes joke that I have the opposite of anorexia, because when I look in the mirror I still see the skinny girl that I once was, I guess I just disregard the clothing tags that read 28 and 3X. ( It should be noted that, that previous statement was the first time I have ever told anyone my actual size, and to a bunch of strangers (not for long? ) no less.
So anyways, after almost every single person I know mentioned how much weight I have gained since December, one of those people mentioned that insurance has recently started covering a lot WLS. So the next day I called Humana and sure enough they covered 100%. I nearly fainted!! So after that she helped me find a surgeon and a Hospital of excellence in area (Denham Springs) . Although the Lake is a center of Excellence, there were no surgeons contracted with Humana, and Woman's Hospital is starting the process of becoming a Center of Excellence however the process will take 2 years until they are in their new building. The closest surgeon I could find was Dr. Chu in Layfette. I've done my research and although I haven't met her yet, I really like what I am finding and I love her on www.whyweight.com . I go to my seminar on Tuesday, August 16th. I am just so excited!! I know it is going to be a long road, but I am so ready!
So in short that is my story, as you can imagine I have a ton of questions. Right now I have questions about insurance approval. Even knowing that it is covered 100% could it still be hard to get approved?
I'm so looking forward to getting to know you guys more and I hope to make some new friends during this journey.
Thanks for listening!

Hey Jenny!
Welcome to OH and congratulations on your decision to tackle your weight! I can't help you with the insurance questions, I paid out of pocket, twice. What surgery are you thinking about having? On this forum many have complained about the Lap-Band. Make sure you do your homework and choose wizely. dsfacts.com has lots of info, you should get a cup of tea and read, read, read! :)
Hugs,
CC

I had my sleeve done by Dr. *******ham with the why weight clinic, The office staff is the greatest, the NUT is awesome and I love going to the once monthly support group. Dr. Chu did my sisters DS and is good, my sister loves her, she also assisted my doctor for my surgery. I had no complications and am down 38#
since 8/9/11. Returned to work and doing great! Good luck and prayers.

Hi Jenny, I just had the Gastric bypass on 9-28-2011 by Dr. Lavin in Metarie. He is great, with the same group you are talking about. I have Humana (Tricare). I was so scared and now I look back why was I so afraid? It wasn't bad at all and now almost 3 weeks out the only difficulty I have is trying to get my 40 ounces in. No pain, nothing. I'm in the Gonzales area and it was worth the trip to Metarie for doctor's appointment and Covington to have my surgery at Fairway Medical Center. It wasn't hard for me to get approved. Started this process in August of this year and had the surgery in September. Good luck to you. God Bless!
