Dr. Norwood just started doing VSG last year.  Does anyone have any experience with him with this or other bariatric surgeries?    What about other Shreveport doctors/hospitals?

Thanks for your input.

I used Dr. Merriman, I he very knowledgeable, confident, funny and all of his staff is very nice and friendly.  He is straight to the point but he does not make you feel bad or uncomfortable for being there!

I had my surgery almost 5 years ago with Dr. Merriman and was very pleased.

When I first started this process I called all of the local surgeons in Shreveport.  Dr. Merriman's staff was the most helpful in the beginning.  Because of this I decided to go to his seminar and was extremely impressed.  I did have an exclusion in my insurance and they were very helpful with with helping me in the approval process.  Dr. Norwoods, office basically told me there was no chance insurance would pay I just felt like they didn't want to make a consultation appt for me.  Dr. Norwood is a very good general surgeon from everything I have heard.  I just didn't feel the staff would help me.

Dr. Merriman after care is great and I am looking forward to my 5 yr post op appt.  He and all staff  still take time and treat me just like they did prior to my surgery.

Also, I know several people that have used other surgeons in this area and I think that Dr. Merriman may have the most strict post op diet.  The way it was explained to me made perfect sense  and I followed it to a "t".  I have had no complications and I have only gained 2-3 lbs from my lowest weight.  I am still below my goal....

Thanks so much for your info.   Which hospital did Dr. Merriman use?  I think he only uses Schumpert now.   I am so proud for you! Go Girl!

I had my surgery at Schumpert and they were wonderful....I had excellent care.  I know Schumpert is going through some major changes so I don't know how this will effect his surgery schedule.   I think I had read where they are moving all the surgical care to Highland.

I had never used Schumpert prior to this surgery.  All of my doctors use Willis Knighton and I worked many years for WK so I was a bit nervous but again I was very pleased and did receive just as good of care at Schumpert as I ever have at WK.

Good luck with your journey....the best advise I can give you is to have a super positive attitude and know that the tough times (missing food, being on liquids while everyone else is eating real food) is just temporary and the big picture is what you are after.  Set tiny goals, I went for 10lbs at a time...before I knew it I was at goal.
