OMG!!! I just followed the link and his liscence are indeed suspended......I agree this has been an emotional rollercoaster! I am really trippin, I just talked to his office last week and was told Devin is no longer there and that Dr. Steeb would be back april 1st. I talked to the supervisor Gayle.

I am devistated......My surgery was originally scheduled for Jan. 12th, 2010. God knows best, that's for sure!!!

I am going to continue to stay hopeful that some other doctor will come through for us all.

I have an appt set up for April 22.. You would think that the office would notify me, being I'm on medicaid.  I'm going to have to call and cancel the appt, or it will use up one of my 12  annual visits.
What a huge bummer. I was thinking I could finally get back to my right weight and enjoy a  meaningful active life with my family, now all that is shot to Hell.
The only option I have left is to revert back to my normal weight lose plan whi*****ludes eating 2 pieces of bread, one tblsp mayo, and 1 can chunk light tuna a day.... and thats it.   I did it before and lost 57 lbs in the first 8 weeks. I just  dont feel like going through all that again  but im going to.  My present weight is just at 280 pounds.  I am starting my STARVATION REGIME FIRST THING TOMORROW. I will keep in touch with this site on the weekly bases and let you know my progress. I love you all and wish  you all the best of luck.

I'm sure you've come to realize that it is much better to discover this now.  They put you to sleep and a man with a knife is in the room!  Ack!

I'm his favorite patient!!!  LOL

Thomas Lavin, MD is the BEST bariatric surgeon in New Orleans (in the USA IMO)!

He's a National Proctor (he teaches other doctors how to do laparscopic gastric banding and bypass).

I have always felt like I was his only patient in the world and he had all day to talk with me.  He is a man of great character.  He knows his skill but he's humble.  His bedside manner is stellar.  He's also handsome!  LOL

He has two offices; one is Mandeville/Covington and one in Metairie on Severn Avenue.  He has clinic on Thursdays.  He's on staff at several hospitals both Northshore and Southshore.

Call them on Monday!  :-)

PS  His staff is almost as fantastic as he!  I've known his nurse practitioner my entire life.  Don't "weight!"  Check out the website and call on Monday!  :-)

Best wishes to you!

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

Hello Butterfly ... you are right; thanks for sharing.

Everyone else, this is not the first time a ray of hope has been darkened for prospective weight loss surgery patients. Right after Katrina things were almost hopeless and some things changes and a good number of people were helped.

The medical availability and surgeon availability is constantly changing. Keep your ears open, remain open and stay in online communities that will afford you the most information about possible opportunities.

Most of all, don't give up because there's so much to gain.

Onward!
Frances

I am not sure if it is true or not, but I was told today by someone that Dr. Lavin takes Medicaid.  Worth checking into that is for sure....good luck to you all!

Butterfly do you know if he takes Medicaid?  There appears to be no surgeon's in the entire state of LA that will do WLS and take state insurance.

Thanks for any help you can us.  I get calls weekly from members who are in great need.

Take care,
Kathy

I'm not sure.  But I would check with Dr. Richardson with Ochsner Hospital.

It's worth a shot!  :-)

Ochsner is a public hospital.  Richardson is the head of bariatrics there, I think?

I don't have his number but it's worth a shot to research his number and make a phone call!!?!? !

I'll be having surgery again this Monday.  Complications simply suck.   14th surgery in 5.5 years.

Good luck!
