New Orleans Vacation Questions
I love love love New Orleans! It is so beautiful and feels like you are walking around in Europe.
There are so many places to eat, I do not think I have ever been to a place that we did not like. I really don't know the names of places but if you google popular restraunts in New Orleans it should bring up the big places. Are you staying in the French Quarter?
There is the aquarium downtown by the river and they have alot to do, there is a War museum that is really interesting if you like history, you have to go to the french market it is awsome, ride the trolley, go to Cafe Du Monde but be carfeul if you dump because it is nothing but carbs and sugar. But the coffee is really good. Go down Bourbon street for the atmosphere, but it does smell REALLY BAD! There is also a cruise you can take on the river that is fun and then there is also the Mall on the River, it is a really nice mall. You can take an swamp tour where you can feed the alligators (but being from Florida that may not be much fun :o).)
I can't help you with the drinking because I have not really gone there too much. I am not a drinker and when I have tried it made me sick.
Well I hope I helped a little bit anyway.
Have fun and BE CAREFUL, it is not a safe city. Do not go out alone, always go in groups and make sure somebody is sober to take care of the group. Sorry that is the mother in me. hehe

One of my favorite places to eat is the Chartres House Cafe. It's a neat little sidewalk bar/restaurant, the red beans are great! I've never eaten anything there I didn't love! As far as sightseeing.... here's a few MUST do's....
ONE morning, try to get up a little early and head to Decatur Street. Cafe Du Monde is great, but there's no need to stand in line an hour for a fried donut, everywhere in New Orleans has beignets... You should have breakfast at the Market Cafe, then go through the French Market... take your time, shop around, enjoy people watching... get some kickass sunglasses for $5... but besides the sunglasses, don't pay full price for anything... talk 'em down! On the other side of Decatur from the market are plenty of neat little shops. One of my favorites is Serendipitous Masks, if you want to see some gorgeous, handmade mardi gras masks.... anyway, lunch at Margaritaville or the Gazebo Cafe (mmm ice cream daiquiris!) is a great way to end a morning on decatur street.... this is a MUST DO!
Night time, of course, walk up and down bourbon and go crazy! you must have a Hurricane at Pat O'Briens and you MUST have a hand grenade, those are the only two requirements....
If you want to spend a lot of money and do things that have absolutely nothing to do with NOLA culture, you can go to the aquarium or take a ride on the riverboat natchez..... but you gotta get in the middle of the quarter and just walk around.... don't stick to bourbon street... Make your way up and down Dumaine, Royal, Chartres, St. Peters, Toulouse.... but at night, if there's a street and it isn't lit very well and you don't see a lot of people walking up and down it... TURN AROUND and walk back towards the lights and people, DO NOT hesitate! lol Explore, and you'll find plenty of things to keep your attention! All you need to pay for is food, drinks and getting into strip clubs... don't let someone sell you a "tour" and don't take a horse carriage ride around the quarter either, too expensive and the person driving will pick a random building and tell you sandra bullock owns it.. (they don't know where).... make your own fun, be your own tour guide, soak up the culture and have a blast!!!
And remember, you've never really been drunk on Bourbon until you're stumbling out of a bar at 4am to go find the Lucky Dog stand before going back to the hotel!...
OH and if it's 4am and you can't remember which way your hotel was, just get a damn cab
...okay....that's my quickie NOLA tourist tips.... if i can think of ANYTHING else, I'll be sure and let you know! my e-mail is [email protected]
If you have ANY questions about ANYthing, please email me!! NOLA is a beautiful experience and I hope you enjoy the hell out of yourself!

Take the street car up St. Charles it is beautiful uptown with all the old mansions. Get out at Audubun Park and walk back to the zoo. Get the ticket that allows you to see the zoo, which is one of the countries best, take a boat back to the Quarter, and see the aquarium. Well worth the time and price.
If you want something a little funky head to Frenchman St right out side the Quarter. You may want to take a cab, just a few dollars, since the walk brings you through the residental part of the Quarter and people not familar with the FQ may get a little nervous. There you can hear everything from jazz to reggae to New Orleans funky butt music.
On the weekends you can go to the flea market down on Decatur and you will pass great art gallaries and other interesting place.
By the way I drove a cab there and know a little about the city, so ask away if you have anymore questions.
