Docs in Baton Rouge accept Medicare/Medicaid?

Hi. I am considering weight loss surgery and need to know if there are any surgeons in Baton Rouge who accept Medicare and/or Medicaid? Any info. appreciated! Thanks.

i believe the only doc in louisiana is dr. steeb in new orleans and he only does gastric sleeve.

I facilitate a support group for the Surgeons Group of Baton Rouge called New U. There are no doctors in BR who accept Medicare/Medicaid for bariatrics, but you can attend and participate in our support group meetings and activities.

In addition to the doctor in New Orleans that was mentioned, there are one or two in Lafayette who will accept Medicare-primary/Medicaid-secondary combinations.

Both of those are easy drives from Baton Rouge. Please let me know if there's something I can do to help you in your journey.

Thank you, Frances. I appreciate the information. I have found a group in Slidell that takes Med/Med. I am just now researching things and I've decided to call Medicare to see what they pay for. Thanks for the info. re: the support group! Do you have a site online? When are the meetings? Thanks again!

I attended the Walk from Obesity in Slidell a week ago. The folks there have built a very strong and well-respected program. We have support group members that have had surgery with them.

Our meetings are:

• First Thursday of month -- Our Lady of the Lake


• Third Tuesday of month -- Pennington Foundation Conference Center

We usually have one other event/activity per month. This month we had a clothing exchange and next month we have a Christmas party.
