Hi, I'm 48 y/o female from Terrebonnne.  Had surgery @ Southern Surgical 8/5/9 d/c'd the next day.  I'm interested in finding fellow Louisiana folks so we can share healthy food ideas for the future.  Appreciate all advise on how to get vitamins in for these early days/month.

Blessings to all,
Thanks

Thanks Leslie, I'm excited!  My husband had Lap Band June 25th also @ Southern Surgical with Dr. Thomas.  Maybe we were both there at the same time.  He had to leave for work offshore 8 days later but has done well.  All total I believe he lost 50lbs & is due for his 1st fill on Friday 8/14.  Of course he burns A LOT OF CALORIES with work.  He also has his food prepared offshore & has to fight the healthy food choices & try to find the healthier stuff.  While he is home, he is more bored & more hungry now.

I am up & about more today.  I'm so swollen inside & the water gain of 14lbs overnight is still causing pressure!  I started my 1st protein drink today (isopure) the only one they allow & its NOT TASTY!!!  grrrr .   On day 10 I can begin the whey protein drinks again.

Have you ever been told how many carb's they want us to stay within?
Some protein drinks have a lot of carb's.

Thanks so much,
Karen

Karen,

I thought they allowed other protein drinks.  I never hd Isopure.  Call the Medical Assistant and ask.

Just a thought.

I had RNY surgery with the same group 7 years ago. I am 51 years old, had my surgery at 44.   I live in Metairie.  In the beginning, they didn't have many options for vitamins and protein that I liked.  I do LOVE bariatric advantage (they are located ON the whyweight web site estore) .  I just have them auto shipped. I find them easy to digest and pretty tasty for vitamins.  Good luck.  It is the best thing I have ever done for myself.

Wow, its great & encouraging to hear from you.  Do they follow up with you?  Do you go to those meetings?  Have you met with someone named Vesta?  I live 1 hr from Metairie so the meetings would be difficult to go through.  I'm not sure what they address.  Have you been able to maintain?  Do you have any advise?

Thank ya so much

I was a patient when there practice was first starting.  I did go see them on my regular, scheduled visit.  If I called the nurse with a question, I usually heard back form some one within the same day or the next day.  Vest is the dietitian.  I did not meet with her then, they did not have that option, but did meet with her later when I had regain issues after Katrina. I use to go to the meetings at Baptist...I liked going, but did not have to travel an hour.

I had lost about 120 pounds and gained back 25 with Katrina.  The best advice I can give you is to stay on the "straight and narrow" for as long as possible.  Do not start eating whatever you want, just because you can. Learn to retrain yourself with your eating and exercise habits....MOVE and do something you like. In the past I yo-yo-ed up and down for years... I am finally into thinking and eating like a normal person.

Good luck

Thanks for asking.  I've been away also.  I actually lost the site address and my password.  I'm doing well.  Its been 5 mths and I've lost a total of 83 lbs.  I'm beginning to have a lot of loose skin and that will get worse I'm sure.  I can't exercise because of moderate to severe spinal condtions, but I'm trying to do little things to stay mentaly/emotionally active.  I'm not have problems with hunger, but I do have difficulty with ANYTHING with grease or oily things. Much more than sugar parts.  I do my best to eat healthy but I don't eat enough I'm sure.  I'm faithful with my vitamins too.
Just had my check up with the Doctor and my blood work looks fine, except my Pre-Albumin is low.  Doctor said its common with a large rapid weight loss.   Also, I've never lost any hair in my life, not even one a week...but I can see 12 or more fallen weekly.....I'm taken 5000 mcg Biotin to help...time will tell.

HOW ARE YOU DOING?

I am an 8 year post op by pass patient living in Metairie.  The best advice I can give is to learn how to eat and exercise in the beginning and take advantage of changing your LIFESTYLE.  I cheat on special occassins:  birthday, holidays, but stay on target to keep the weight off.  Good luck all, janbdiver
