ATTENTION ANYONE WITH LOUISIANA MEDICAID WHO WANTS WLS:

Dr. Charles Bellows @ Tulane in New Orleans is accepting NEW patients and happily accepts Louisiana Medicaid. I didn't want to mention this sooner because I wasn't sure how things were gonna work out, but my surgery was done on June 16th and I am recovering nicely. The staff at Dr. Bellows office is very helpful. I just love Vanessa (PA) and Sheila (Nurse).

My heart was broken when things fell through with Dr. Steeb. I prayed very hard that if it was meant to be for me to have this surgery, that God would provide a surgeon, and he did! If you were like me and invested your heart, mind, and soul into having WLS, don't give up. Call Tulane' s surgical clinic and get you an appointment. Dr. Bellows has performed alot of WLS, but I was his first patient to ever get the sleeve. Then a couple of my other friends were sleeved by him as well.

I hope that this helps any of you who were and still are considering the surgery.

I just had my first appoint with him on July 6th. I went in and seen Vanessa which is his assistant. She is awesome and sooo sweet. she examines u by listening to your heart and lungs and stuff. You do have to put on a gown but you leave ur undies and bra on. She goes over the band information and the sleeve. Dr Bellows is not doing the Bypass at this time. Be prepaired to fill out about 14 pages of medical weight history. lol At least they supply the pen.  After she is done examining me another lady came in and brought me a paper with a list on it. There are ten things listed but they only check the ones u need to do. Mine was meet with their NUT, meet with their Physeiologist ( person who talks to u about ur exercises after surgery ) and a sleep study.  I have those appointments already scheduled for Aug 11th . I hope that this helps u prepair for your appointment......Sherri

Jaylyn I was able to make all of my appointments on Aug 11th in New Orleans. They want us to use their drs there because those dr already know what dr bellows is looking for. When I called and scheduled my appointmnets I asked if I could get them on the same day because I have to drive 4 hours to get to NO. They were able to work with me and get it done. Then after those appointments I have to schedule a follow up appointment to see dr bellows and set a surgery date. I also have to see a cardio but not sure if its there or my own they gave my PCP an order for cardio so not sure but cant get that until I have surgery date because a release from cardio is only good for 30 days.  If you have any more questions just ask there are several who have already had the surgery with dr bellows and several of us that are waiting. We are one big family lol...Sherri.

Disabled_nurse did they say how long it takes for medicaid to approve the surgery. I see that you have aleady been waiting a while. I was just wondering. I will have all my test done by aug 11th. I will schedule my follow up for two weeks later. I would do the  week following the test but that falls during the week that we will be at Disney. I hope yours comes soon....Sherri
