Southwest Med Center (Dr Cunningham)

Has anyone heard anything about Dr. Cunningham? He is with the southwest surgical weight loss center in Lafayette. I have heard good things about the program at southwest. Anyone have any experience? I have an appointment with him in June 11, 2009. If I don't feel comfortable I will keep looking until I find the right surgeon.

BTW - how long do I have to be a member before my post no longer have to be approved by a moderator?

I've not heard of Dr. Cunningham, but I have heard good things about the center in Lafayette.

Michele, I can't help you too much. I am having my surgery June 10th with Dr. Stevens (also with Southwest in Lafayette). I have met Dr. Cunningham on two different occassions at seminars but I am not familiar with him. I do know that if you are not comfortable with Dr. Cunningham, you can request to see Dr. Stevens or Dr. Chu. I haven't heard any bad about any of the doctors there so far though. I don't know which surgery you are looking into but I do know that Dr. Cunningham is not very fond of the Duodenal Switch. If there's anything else I can do to help, please let me know! I met him at a seminar in Alexandria and found him to be very snotty.  Does not do the DS, which is what I wanted.  I went to Dr. Stevens, in the same group, and absolutely adore him and his nurse, Ludie.  If I can help further, let me know.

My husband just had the RNY with Dr. Chu on 6/9/09.  I think Dr. Cunnigham assisted her.  I really like her.  Also he came ome on the 12th and is doing good.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I had an appointment with Dr. Cunningham and really liked him. Out of curiousity, does anyone know why he does not do the DS? (that is one of the questions I forgot to ask!!)

I have met with Dr. Cunningham for the band, but now I'm thinking of the sleeve instead.


Anyone here had Dr. Cunningham do the sleeve for them?
