Insurance Has Spoken

I found out on Wednesday that my request for the sleeve has been denied, due to the fact that it is still considered "experimental".  One of my co-workers has the same exact insurance and had the sleeve approved on the first go round!  I am so DISAPPOINTED!!!

I just don't understand how they can turn down such a GREAT alternative to the Gastic Bypass and the Lapband (which are the only two the claim to cover).  Now, I have to decide whether to appeal the decision and postpone my date of December 29th or request one of the other types of surgery!  The Gastric Bypass seems like the alternative for me, but it is so much more invasive.

I am at a loss....I am going in on Monday afternoon to talk to Dr. Hausmann with my hubby to talk about my options.  Keep your fingers crossed everyone....

Sorry for the denial.  If you really want the sleeve then meet with your surgeon and work on the appeal.  Don't let the date change your feelings on what surgery you want.  I'm actually having rny and don't know much like the sleeve so get more info from the surgeon.  I'll be praying you make the right decision for your health.

Not really, with the sleeve they take out your remaining stomach with the bypass they leave it in you so you can still produce gastric juices. The RNY is really the most researched and performed surgery of all the types and generally produces the best results. Don't be afraid b/c you "think" it's 'more' invasive because it's not. Just because they reroute a little bit of intestine doesn't really mean it's more or less invasive. I'd much rather have my body parts still function and left inside me after surgery and not taken out and thrown away what was once healthy, working tissue. The sleeve would be the most risky in the long run because what if you needed some sort of revision? You wouldn't have your stomach in you anymore so once you get the sleeve that's it, you got it. Just think about those types of things....and seeing as how I'm finding your post a little late I hope you make the right decision!
