Your surgeon can help you decide what is best for you.  I find the greater amount you need  to lose lends itself to RNY.  I also find that those  with lapband tend to gain the weight back.  This is  just my experience with those I know.

It is usually a decision that you and your doctor can make together.  I chose Lap-Band due to the lower complications and I wanted to lose the weight slower to hopefully allow my skin to shrink while I am losing.  No matter what surgery you have, you can gain weight back if you don't follow the respective surgery rules.

I chose to have the Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy.  I knew I needed restriction, but the fills, unfills, refills, and other complications associated with the band weren't for me.  Same with the RnY or DS...  both require suplimentation that my life could depend on and I'm horrible about taking pills.  I knew that the sleeve is a great tool for people with 100 pounds or so to lose (most reach goal by 9 months to a year), but I knew that I could do it without the malabsorption.

I guess it just depends on your own personal cir****tances.  What tool fits into your lifestyle best?  Any surgery can be defeated, but it all comes down to the choices we make.

I'm 18 months out and down 187 pounds.  88 left to go!
