Hi Everyone!  I have finally decided to post after joining a few months ago and reading everyones hopes, questions and support.  I am so happy to have somewhere I can go to meet others who, like me, have the desire to live a much better quality of life.

I am currently waiting for approval from my insurance (United Healthcare EPO) for the Vertical Sleeve.  I have a tentative surgery date for Dec. 29th in Baton Rouge.

I would love to learn about the different recipes that have evolved from having to eat what must seem like an endless amount of blended foods.  Any suggestions of creative ways to make the most out of the full liquid diet?

Thanks!

Hello Bayou,

We are in the same support group and practice. Welcome!

I suggest blended soups and experimentation with a variety of herbs and seasonings. This doesn't mean spicy or pepper, but getting the flavor of herbs will help satisfy a certain hunger for taste that we all have.

Don't forget that liquids can be hot ... temperature wise. I love sugar free hot chocolate made with lowfat or skim milk. It's a comfort food and it does its job well.

I hope to see you at our Christmast party and look for more recipes and menu ideas in our newsletter, New View.

Wishing you well,
Frances

Are certain people invited or can anyone participate in your Christmas party or events?

Hello Faith,

We have meetings on the first Thursday of each month, but are trying to plan special events through the year like outtings, parks, dinners, family stuff, etc.

You are surely welcome and I would love to see you. The Christmas party is Dec. 9 in Baton Rouge, send me a PM or email address and I'll get you a map and directions.

Wishing you well,
Frances

Welcome and Hello!  I think the best thing that I did for my liquid diet was to strain and save the juice from gumbo and different types of beans.  Congrats on your tentative surgery date.

Well, thanks everyone for such a warm welcome, the link to the recipes and the invitation as well.  I am very interested in coming to the Christmas party, but I will not know until a day or two before if I will actually be able to make it.  My hubby's work schedule changes quite a bit these days.  But I would like to get the info, just in case...

Dr. H. did mine 12/16/08. I was glad he was recommended to me. I have Lupus and he was very thorough with the testing because of it. He answered all my questions in plan simple terms. Prayers for a yes answer from the insurance.
